New bed?
Zeus has just ripped up his bed to pieces, it was one of these: http://www.petsathome.com/shop/duck-egg-poppy-oval-bed-small-by-pets-at-home-81505
As hes going to be teething alot and chewing into almost everything, what kind of bed would you recommend? I've seen the Ruff N Tuff ones, but apparantly theyre not so "Ruff N Tuff" - http://www.petsathome.com/shop/square-dog-bed-by-ruff-and-tuff-38621
Has anyone used one of these? http://www.petsathome.com/shop/grey-50cm-plastic-dog-bed-by-do-not-disturb-83053 , they don't really look too comfortable.

Re: New bed?
I gave up with foam beds/mattresses long ago! They all get ripped to shreds & Dempsey actually eats his!
I used a couple of old, ex-german army blankets folded in the bottom of his crate & he loves them.

Re: New bed?
we've got a plastic bed just like that complete with a little mattress , brand new and had it 6 months , Tilly won't sleep in it, she prefers her big cushion or her comfy RSPCA bed that she's had since she was a baby, no chewing problems with this but she does like to kill anything else with stuffing in

Re: New bed?
Violet has one of those plastic beds with a furry cushion in it. At the moment, the bed is tucked on it's side behind the couch, whilst Violet is sprawled out on the couch having a nap.
I think she slept in it once when she was 8 weeks old and we put her there. Oh, and one time she used it as a viewing platform as she couldn't quite reach the window.
During the day she sleeps on the couch, and at night time she goes into her crate.

so at night time, does she just sleep on the tray in the crate? i was thinking about doing this but didnt think it'd be comfortable as zeus likes planting his head on the side of his bed when he sleeps

Re: New bed?
On the base of the crate she has the fluffy mattress out of the plastic dog bed, a big cushion from the back of the old couch, a half of a duvet that I sewed up the edges of, and a fleecy blanket. For the sides I bought some of that batting stuff and some fabric, and made bumper cushions/quilts that go on the left side and the back so that she can lean against it without having to lean on the bars, and left the other side and front open so that she doesn't get too hot. Sometimes she rearranges the cushion depending on how she feels, but usually by the morning, she's curled up at the back.
You can kind of see in this photo what I mean about the side panels.

Re: New bed?
Bumper cushjions Linzy , I know she's your baby but isn't that a little too far ?? on second thoughts probably not as if Tilly was crated my OH would probably do exactly the same , and probably hang a little mobile from the top

Re: New bed?
We can't have delicate ( ), little ( ) Violet having to lean on a cold wire! At least it's not only me who's mad - I've seen them being sold online for $100 upwards!

Re: New bed?
thanks for your input everyone. after consideration, i think im going to get him a plastic bed as he is a big chewer and will pretty much destroy anything else i get him. what should i put in the plastic bed, that he wont destroy even if he chews it? i was thinking blankets more over a mattress, but would that be comfortable?
also, what do you think about putting carpet in his crate? would this be a good idea for him to sleep on, as he seems to love the little piece of carpet in our kitchen (which is laminate floored)

Re: New bed?
Had a bed like yours for Millie and she chewed the bottom out of it. So now we have a plastic one like you have posted. Have just used, from the old bed, the cushion part in the bottom and the sides of it fit in nicely so she's not lying up against the plastic. Also just let her lie on any old blankets/fleeces that are of no use to anyone else in the house.
I thought she would chew the new plastic bed but never has and loves it.

Re: New bed?
Just be careful to take any buttons etc off of anything you use as bedding, I have to cut the poppers off of the duvet cover as Mia would eat them otherwise!!

Re: New bed?
cheap ikea fleece blankets seem to do the trick, lasted a good 6 months now with regular washes to keep them fresh

Re: New bed?
Nala chews everything, but for some reason has never chewed her bed. She has two - a soft red oval one in her crate for when we are out and a flat rectangular one in our bedroom for night time (she doesn't really use it though - just sleeps on our bed).

Re: New bed?
i ended up putting a deck chair cushion into zeus's crate, it fits perfectly and he loves it. he stretches out and goes to sleep, which he couldnt do in the oval bed, but most of all, he doesnt chew it! result.

Re: New bed?
Blue used to chew all his beds up. Sometimes would be fine for ages other times they wouldn't last a day.
I got one of these. Can't chew them as it's off the ground and it's been amazing.
