my pup and baby
Hiya, just bought a sbt, female, white, 11 weeks, I also have a 1 year old. I have been brought up around staffs, but I'm still a bit nervous about my little one pulling my pup.
One of the main reasons I got a staff was because of the nanny dog name they have for themselves, and through experience of this, just wondering, do I interact my pup and my little boy as much as possible, (in short bursts obvs) or try and keep them seperate?
Thanks,
Ree & Mia

Re: my pup and baby
Hi & welcome - beautiful pup!
I'd let him be a part of your baby's life as much as possible. Obviously it has to be supervised, and he can't be allowed to play roughly with the baby, or nip etc. But the more used to the baby he is, the better for everybody!

Re: my pup and baby
Thankyou, and sorry about the three pictures, I'm on my phone and it froze,
We've been letting them play today and they both seem to be fine, mia seems to just not be bothered, he fussed her and she sat and waited for him to stop before she moved again.
Thankyou again, will let you know how it goes

I find it quite amazing that stafford pups so often know how to behave with babies & young children. It's a lovely sight to see!

I love it, I hate all the negativity. The only dog I ever planned on getting was a staff. Just so loving and affectionate!

Re: my pup and baby
Gorgeous pup!!
Mine has been around two kids of 3 and 1.5 years old since we got her at 8 weeks, she doesn't live with the kids but sees them everyday and she is always so tolerant and gentle with them, of course she is always supervised but she never needs to be told "no" around them, and they do man handle her at times!!

My two kids learned to stand by grabbing my staff's scruff & hauling themselves up! He just used to look at me as if to say "Do I have to put up with this? I do? Oh, alright, then."

Re: my pup and baby
Haha thankyou! Last night my little boy fell onto Mia, and she just looked at me as if to say 'can you get this off me?' It was so cute. Don't get me wrong I'd never leave any child with any dog alone, I just want there to be friendships in the household lol

Hi and welcome from me, Millie and Bella.
She is so cute. Lovely pictures. Bella has seen my sisters kids a few times and she acts so differently around them to how she is with adults.

Re: my pup and baby
great to see them getting along and their instincts are great, Tilly would go mental when my stepson arrived , jumping and just going mad, then she'd just trot up to my grandson and lick his hand

Re: my pup and baby
Hi and welcome from me and Charlie.
You're definitely going about it the right way. We got Charlie whew my eldest was 7 and my twins were 3. They've always been allowed to interact and play together. My son, who is nearly 5 now, plays quite rough with Charlie sometimes and Charlie is just so patient and gentle with him. They really are amazing around kids, especially if they've grown up with them.
Mia is gorgeous and it looks like she and your son are going to be firm friends

Re: my pup and baby
My kids are ages 3 years and 7 months old baby, tink 13 week old pup she dont mind been pulled about by either of the kids they are always on the floor playing, sleeping etc tink know what leave and no means so makes a massive diffrence. We let our baby play with tink and its really odd she plays really softly with the baby and a bit more ruff and tumble with our eldest. Good luck with your pup

Re: my pup and baby
gorgeous!
as stated, let them interact, get used to each other, and just keep an eye on it all.
i remember taking Lola to see my young cousins when she was around 12 weeks old, and having never been around small people before she was a little over excited, no nipping or barking just very "energetic", which luckily my cousins loved (they've always had dogs) but now she's a tad older she's brilliant, really calm and just loves the attention

Re: my pup and baby
I think now she's settles in she's a lot calmer, she just sleeps now, and tens to ignore my little boy! The only thing were having trouble with now is when she's in her cage at night, she's started yelping, I keep running thinking she's hurt and she's fine, I just want her to get used to a cage (I think its also called a crate? Lol) I don't neccasarily want her to be in it when she's older, just for the night times until she's out of her puppy ways, but I'd rather get her used to it now than when she's older and less accepting.
Thanks

The only way to stop it is by not going to her! Sounds harsh but there clever little things and will associate 'yelping' = 'Attention'.
Give it a few nights and she will settle down

Re: my pup and baby
She looks soo much like our roxi did, we got her when my children was 1 and 2. and some wont agree but i trained my children same as i trained my dog (not the sit est honest just they need be taught how treat roxi as much as roxi did with them) and let them spend as much time as they wanted together. When my children tried pull dogs ears and tail they was told naughty and when puppy roxi nipped she was taken away from children. I sound silly but children are now 5 and 6 and roxi is their best friend, they play all together when the children are poorly she sleeps at their feet and it's lovely, I was brought up with dogs are bad and dont touch or will bite. But i always loved the way staffy's looked and my mum thought i was crazy when I got roxi with my small children, and now she has recently gone out and got a puppy herself! so with me i decided as long as their happy spend as much time together as their willng and let them build a relationship.
We now have a baby nephew and as said roxi lets him pull her and when shes fed up she goes sits in her bed and we tell him let her rest. it is cute to see. aww makes me all broody again.
