Dog Dolly - REHOMED

Post by kilmousk Sun May 20 2012, 14:19

Dolly is a 6 month old Tan Crossbreed and is currently on foster in Cardiff.

The Dolly Fact File

Dog status: Good but needs controlled introductions
Cat status: Unknown
Child status: Dolly is in an adult only foster home and came to us from the pound so we do not know if she is used to young children. She could be rehomed with young people aged 10 years plus.
House training: Good
Home alone: Good, could live with a full time worker if she received enough mental and physical stimulation and input at other times.
Basic training: Knows the basics and is learning all the time. She is an intelligent dog who loves to work and earn rewards.

Dolly is a little firecracker. She is a bundle of fun, love, energy and enthusiasm. If you are looking for and loving, loyal, comical companion then look no further, Dolly is your girl.

Dolly was a stray from the local pound so we have no history on her. She was probably under socialised with dogs at a young age and while good with all the dogs she has met there needs to be careful introductions so she understands the correct way to introduce herself. Dolly is initially boisterous and excitable which often leads to over the top nipping behaviour when she first meets. After careful introductions she is now great with the dog she is fostered with. Overall she just needs more socialisation to learn how to meet and greet other dogs and her fosterer is working on this everyday and she is improving all the time. She could be rehomed with canine company or as an only dog. If rehomed with a canine companion they would need to tolerant of Dolly invading their space as she likes to sit right next to people and dogs and will groom and lick very closely!

Dolly has not met cats or small furries.

Dolly is very well socialised with people although we do not know what she is like with children. As she came to us with no history and she is in an adult only foster home if we were going to rehome her with young people they would need to be used to dogs and over 10 years old.

Dolly is happy to be left without becoming distressed or pining and she currently lives in a family who work and she is with a break in the middle of the day. However this is with canine company. She is almost fully housetrained clean overnight, happy to be touched all over and has been no trouble travelling in the car.

Dolly has started basic training in her foster home and knows sit and to go to her bed when asked. She is good on the lead and only pulls when she sees other dogs or bikes approaching. When there has been no dogs around she has been off lead and her recall is very good and she stays close. She will need ongoing positive training around meet other dogs and to reduce the excited jumping when meeting people. Oh and she counter surfs!

Dolly is a loving and intelligent dog who is on the road to being a well rounded and relaxed dog. She may not be there just yet, but working towards that goal with Dolly will be a rewarding and wonderful journey.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from www.hoperescue.org.uk and should be returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk

After working hard for the past month to get Dolly socialising properly with other dogs, yesterday was her first chance to meet and greet other dogs while she was off the lead and I am happy to say she was absolutely fantastic! She wasn't aggressive at all, regardless of the dogs breed/size and she didn't do any of the "snapping" that she used to do when we first had her - she just greeted them with a big waggy tail and wanted to play.

I am also happy to say that she is now fully house trained too! No accidents at all for the last two weeks!

Dolly really has come such a long way and would make an ideal companion for some lucky person out there
