Beach advice (Updated 8/05/2012)
We leave on Tuesday next week for our holiday at the sea. As it will be my first time at the beach with Tyson, I am wondering if there are any special precautions I need to take for his comfort and safety. We will have a private beach and since it is not holiday season here I doubt there will be many dogs around but Tyson is very dog friendly so no worries there.
I am thinking about what to take with for things like sand in the eyes and blue bottle stings. I have some really mild shampoo to lightly wash the salt off each day or would a plain water rinse suffice?
Any suggestions welcome.

Keep him away from dead Jellyfish, Moo liked to eat them!!
Make sure you have plenty of fresh water available but you'll know that one anyway!! I hope you have a great break

Sorry, I can't be any help at all. I've only had Millie at a small beach once for about 30 mins. It sounds like a wonderful holiday

Have a great vacation! Sounds like a lovely time. If the sun is intense some sunscreem might be necessary, but only where skin shows. Just keep an eye on him. More of a problem with pink skin, but I always like being prepared myself.

What about a sun shelter /beach shelter tent thing for when he wants a snooze, we are going to get one for Tilly and my daughter to share when we go back to Cornwall in summer

Suki eats jellyfish to so I think keeping him from eating things is the biggest worry

I've been racking my brain for suggestions of things for you take, maybe some shade for Ty to sit under would be most welcome, especially if it's a very sunny day.

Well we arrived safely in Umzumbe at the sea after a 7 hour journey. The roads were not busy and the trip was all good with Tyson being very good in the car. We left at 3.00am aso arrive before lundh and have had the afternoon to suck in the sea and warm weather. Tyson is awestruck with the beach. He alternates trying to take the breakers head on and digging like crazy in the beach sand. I am to chicken to let him totally off lead as, although there is nary a dog in sight, I fear the really bad undertow in the surf. Will try on the long lead tomorrow.

I use the long lead at the beach as well just ot be safe. Rinsing him off with just water at the end of the day should be fine but he will most likely need a bath once you are done with the beach.
Hope you have a great time
