ASDA Hero dog food?

has anyone had there dog on this? im trying to find a new food for scarlett as we have found out shes taken a bad reaction to the food shes on now! and well because were moving to a flat im going to order her food online to make it easier on us (As theres not a pet store near by =/)

I would recommend Fish4Dogs! Bailey lasted the longest with this food, he's as on Royal Canin then JWB but he went off the fish4dogs the other day and is now on raw!

Most of the supermarket stuff is rubbish and not much better if at all than Bakers

yeah dave =/, just shes need new food and i cant get something expensive (as we had to fork out alot of money for removal costs!) but she needs changing as she a bloated tummy and bad poo, so im gunna have to shop around and see ifi can get soemthing good cheap =/ she had to get ill at the worst time lol!

and my lab was on wagg for awhile so i might try her with wagg

Wagg , Bakers etc is all Junk . you really need to spend a reasonable amount of money on the food to make sure she is ok, we use Wainwrights (pets at home) and its about £35 for a 15kg, look at Tilly's pics she takes no harm by it.
If you want to cut costs you can't cut corners. Another option to consider is Raw . Ella feeds her boys on it and she reckons it works out very cheap

i dont mind spending a money when i get payed next cos ill be settled in the new place then i can get decent food might try her raw then see how she goes

You need to plan her diet carefully , take a bit of time to read through the tutorials on here , there are plenty of people to advise, but she shouldn't just have her diet chopped and changed , you need to build up to it

i havent change it, shes been on weebox since she was born but its starting to affect her, so i need to change her to something because i dont like seeing her with a bloated tummy and runny poo =/

I wouldn't feed any supermarket brands if you are wanting to feed kibble. I do feed raw to my two and bare in mind Chance is 45kg so ALOT bigger then the staffs on here and it still only £10-15 a MONTH to feed both of them, depending how much fresh fish i feed

scarletts gunna be a big un in all she got her dads size and hes a biiiig AMBD! What do you feed your 2 ella? like what fish and do you give them mince? i know my best friend feed her rottie and staffie on raw and gives them biscuits through out the day

Nope no biscuits or dog food what so ever and no i don't feed mince.

I try and feed whole prey as much as possible as in whole fish, rabbits, chickens, pigs/lambs heads etc etc

Anyhoo. The supermarket brands & webbox are all quite crap! Wainwrights is a fairly cheap decent one.

yeah he is caryll but hes got the AMBD shape and height and event he cute droppy face ^_^ but cos hes crossed with a staffie (his mum)

Ella - oh dear might be a trip fr my OH to do if she going raw i cant go in the supermarket and go tot he meat section i feel sick!

Well if he's a staffy cross he's not going to be anywhere near the size of 'true' ambulls as they 'can' be huge dogs!

Well i only get fish from the supermarket, i order most in bulk, i have an awesome butcher and i get some stuff from the chinese supermarket

i know they can get pretty big, hes bigger than my friends staff (scarletts mummy), i love her how she is anyways

ill have to have a look then as my OH uncle mate owns a butchers wonder if he can get anything for me cheap and im not far from a market which has a fish stall in it so i may ahve a nosey once we have done the move

Far enough, i personally wouldn't start feeding raw until you have a supply sorted first

Mine are on skinners field and trial the salmon and rice one and do great on that having 3 dogs foods such as jwb are very exspensive so this is a decent food withotut the big price tag plus mine get fresh veg everyday in there food aswel as chicken mince for hooch and tara and white fish for stan the prize choice stuff. a 15kg bag lasts my 3 around a month if not more.

Try hartingtons theres no rubbish in the complete and its only about 23 pound a 15k bag, i know tesco do small bags but i dont know if they do the 15k bags..

I have learned my lesson this time. I had lexi on Wagg her whole life and shes been fine but then shes become sickly for some reason so i took her off it and have put her on Purina Omega, and yes it has cleared up her runny tummy but i investigated it further and it's just basically grain and of very little nutritional value to her so she has large "healthy" looking poo but its just undigested food.

Its only a new bag and my dad would go gaga if i threw it out and i honestly cant afford a bag of food this month so i'm going to have to come up with a genius plan...

well i didnt relise we had a pet shop round the corner so im going to see what they have in there for scarly

yeah janey they do little trial bags at this pet shope like 80p each was gunna see if i can find one that suites her xx

I wouldn't, swappping and changing foods will only lead to upset digestion. Took me nearly 3 years and 3 changes to find out one that suited Moo. You need to change over gradually Xx

Harringtons isn't as bad as pedigree and bakers etc. you can get a reasonable bag of that in tescos for £6 it's got omega 3 and some good vitamins in it, obviously not as good as jwb or fish4dogs but whilst moneys tight that's what i use

I also woundn recommend Wagg. Lola was AWFUL on wagg!!
We took a few attempt at food to find one and now Lola is on
Harringtons Lamb with rice and she's responsive, listens and her poos are fab!
It slightly more expensive than normal (junk) food.
But its dairy, wheat, gluten, grain and cereal free.
Got seaweed and citruis and omega oils in it!

I use Beta puppy food for my girls, its not too expensive. Lily was weaned on Wagg but I heard it was poor quality. Lola was weaned on Gusto which I had never heard of and neither had my Vet x

Ellie was on royal canin from 8weeks to she was 3years old,for the last year she has been on harringtons and i can see no difference in her well being or behavior.We get the 15kg bags from asda or when on offer at our local morrissons.

mine are on wagg sensitive as maisy was on wagg when I got her and scooby had upset tummy when we got him, he'd been on allsorts, so changed to the sensitive, they have thick shiny coats, are happy and healthy so I'm sticking with it for now..

Its worth checking out your local pet shop aswell. Mine stocks royal canin, james wellbeloved etc but they also produce there own kibble with no additives, fancy packaging. Its £20 a bag instead of £45 a bag!

As a side note, i see lots of people going on about pedigree wet food but i am aware of show breed champions that have been fed on pedigree wet food with pedigree mixer. I wonder how much of it is true or whether it is spouted by premium pet food manufactuers and passed on by concerned owners.

No, it just isn't very good! No 'wet' food is, really, because it's about 80% water! Don't forget that a lot of breeders will feed a 'bit' of pedigree food because they will then get paid to say that they use it in adverts! If you really look into it they probably feed tripe 90% of the time & add a bit of pedigree to the food once a week or so.

Meat and animal derivatives - who knows what that is; cereals - what cereals? Floor scrapings perhaps? Derivatives of vegatable origin - who knew you could get vegatable derivatives! More poor quality scraps left over from the human food manufacturing process, probably deemed not fit for human consumption. Fats - what kind of fats?

Pedigree pouches: Meat and animal derivatives (min 4% lamb, min 4% poultry), cereals, oils, fats, derivatives of vegetable origin, vegetable protein extracts, minerals

Even worse.

Compare it to a good quality wet like Nature Diet trays: Chicken (60%), rice (5%), vegetables (5%), natural ground bone, kelp, herbs, omega 3 and 6, vitamins, minerals

Or Natures Menu cans: Chicken (34%), salmon (25%), carrots (6%), peas (4%), rice (4%) sunflower oil

Doesn't take a genius to work out which is better!

No i dont doubt that its better but regardless, a dog fed on pedigree chum still won best in show at the time so it cant have been that bad for it! i dont give my girl pedigree by the way im just saying.

Maybe he does feed it, but that doesn't mean it's good! Yes, it contains everything a dog needs - they all do - it's just that some also contain many things that they don't need!

Don't believe all you read about the Best in Show dogs eating pedigree chum! As I said before, for that statement to be true all they have to do is feed the food to their dog once or twice a month at the most & they then get paid a lot of money for promotional work.

The fact remains that, of all the complete foods, it isn't amongst the best & is actually quite near the bottom.

lola has been on wagg and various tinned meat for 4 years i've never liked it but nature diet trays were the best really with the wagg but the time has come when i've had enough of the mess the occasional funny tummy and having just got a new pup didn't want to put her through the experience so just changed to raw they love it and for the 2 costs £11 a week including a big bag of dried tripe or something,i found the advice on here a great help and various websites managed to find something suitable, i feed a mixture of chicken carcasses in the morning and some sort of offal with it 3 times a week, minced chicken or something in the evening with minced veg n fruit and fishes in the eve i get all this from a local shop all in trays all prepared so easy for a newbie like me,in just 1 week both have had such a massive improvement better coat and teeth lola the older 1 now has no tartar!!

Since I was introduced to Dr John's Silver Award by our local boarding kennels/day care centre I have had no stinky staffie wind and his coat gleams. They do a Silver award suitable for most dogs and a Gold award for working or very active dogs. My harrier hound is almost 13 but still extremely active so the silver award is suitable for him too. A large sack costs £10 and it last me a month. Pretty good for keeping two dogs well fed and healthy!

We tried asda food once with my dogs while at my mums. Bad idea! Runny RED poo all round! It didn't settle either! I avoid foods with multi coloured biscuits and stick to food that is brown and with good protein content.

Personally I wouldn't use it. Its first ingredient is cereal, so not very good quality
