Re: equi
To my knowledge that's fairly close, You get Iron grays and Steal Grays, normally they are sort of dappled... I've never heard it termed as Blue... but then I just grew up in small time yards... its what we called them i'm not a breeder. You can get Blue roans if i remember correctly.

Toytown is a chestnut with a white blaze. I can't see any other white on it.
The brown & whites are always called Skewbald. Black & white are Piebald.

Re: equi
Hi Caryll, I questioned that one because i believe it had a few small white dot markings on its flanks.... i only remembered it because I'd read a debate on it on another forum, but Yep definatly chestnut and white blaze Steve i think a lot of the American Pintos are colour'd... very cowboys n Indian for you

Re: equi
Blue roan is a colour in horses, here is a link to an image, can't figure out how to get the image itself on here.
http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.roanhorses.com/catalog/images/1181564858_roan_hayes0h.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.roanhorses.com/azul_caballo_amigo.php&h=480&w=721&sz=53&tbnid=UFqdyezcXFR8GM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=135&zoom=1&docid=fU4FP6jxXmuP6M&sa=X&ei=lXKUT9LvLYqt0QX0iNjzAQ&ved=0CD4Q9QEwAQ&dur=2669
Woah, long link! It's a link to an image of a blue roan quarter horse. And I'd go with Caryll on the Isabella Palomino.

Re: equi
Sorry only got on here now! You cant get solid blue horses, you can get blue roan but there generally isn't a problem with their skins

Re: equi
Steve wrote:i love the cheatnuts and white has there been any top race horses that colour?
NO! And there never should be!
They have a piebald (black and white) thoroughbred and its wrong wrong wrong. Thoroughbreds are and always have from the start of time been solid and TB lovers are up in arms about a coloured race horse, it opens it to SO much bother with cross-breeding

Re: equi
You can get blue & strawberry roans, but they are not dilutes. A dun is a dilute, though.

Re: equi
Sorry posting lots, lots of comments haaha
Isabella palomino has more distinct colours, the mane is a lot lighter and the face features are darker, the mare in that photo is cream and the foal is creamello. gorgeous colour but a night mare to keep in the summer

Re: equi
Yeah true Caryll, but horses of certain colours don't generally have skin problems. Hardly little fellas they are

No, I've rarely heard of bad skin complaints in horses. My friend (with the cottages in cornwall) has had several horses over the years & I've never heard her talk about skin complaints.
Do certain breeds have any specific genetic problems?

Re: equi
Not overly. Cobby types and ponies are more prone to laminitis cause theyre more prone to weight gain from being hardy and over fed by hoomans, and the thoroughbreds generall have bad hooves but theres not really a breed prone to anything hereditary.
Grey horses with black skin are more prone to melanomas in fact every grey i know has them, thats about it

Re: equi
I mean there is always going to be inhereited diseases but its not like saying "Labradors have hip dyspalisa and pugs have eye problems"
collapsing is getting more common thought i have noticed because of a muscle defect in quarter horses thats passed on, but its still a rare case

Re: equi
i watch something about race horse are really inbred us human are bad at times we kill everything that is nice
Re: equi
Yeah they can be, but its only a new breed. the whole thoroughbred line was born from only three stallions so every thoroughbred is technically related at some point, but the best horses don't always produce the best racers, its all about mathematics and a horse either has it or it doesn't.

Re: equi
You don't even really want to know how many tbs get put down because of problems. they are broken and raced at 2 years old and they havent even stopped growing so they end up with lung problems and muscles and leg problems

Yes, the Godolphin Arabian, the Darley Arabian & the Byerley Turk. All Arabs which were then crossed with other breeds to produce the thoroughbred.

Re: equi
human are a evil race... if i was breeder of anything i would be breeding for health, inbreding or close line breding would be a big NO NO with dont matter if my animal crap or poor standard atleast i would be able to sleep at night i did it the right way.
Re: equi
yeah its quite sad, a lot of race horse breeders are waiting for the big money horse that they will get thousands just to breed from.

Heart murmurs, dummy foals, lung and breathing problems. OCD's, aggressive behaviour. Juvenile joint disease, kissing spine.
Just asked an expert on breeding and this is the general problems with the Tb inbreeding. Always good to expand your knowledge!

Worse than I thought!

Re: equi
Well tbf it can happen with any animal cant it, just the luck of the draw. but inbreeding definitely tips the favour badly! Horse breeding is a real problem cause theres not actually that many stallions...so a lot of the time one stallion covers a million mares and they all get crossed somewhere :/
