Hi there, new member here :)
Hi, new to the board so popped in here first
We have a big Staff, Baxter, who we love dearly
We know Bax is not a full Staff, but, we know the parents of Baxter as their owners are friends of ours.
They were not planning to breed them as Baxter's mohter, Boo, is not a full Staff but a Staff/Labrador X. His father, Fernando, is a full SBT. However, Boo & Fernando were naughty and she ended up with a litter of 7 (which two unfortunately didn't make it).
Now, as Baxter has a bit of Lab in him, he is tall with a longer nose. He takes after his dad when it comes to markings, but his mother for sheer size. Which, unfortunatley, means we forever get the pitbull question.
Our Baxter is the most loving puppy (11months old now) who likes nothing more than being cuddled; he actually threw himself in the canal the other week as a border collie snitffed him and had a growl.....Baxter being the softy he is would rather have a swim than growl back.
He has always been the biggest out of his litter and we saw a picture of one of his brothers a few weeks ago and although he looked the same in features and marking he was half the size (obviously took after his dad on that one). Now, Diesel's owners have NEVER been asked what their dog is even though he is from the same litter as Baxter, so there is still the stigma attached to 'long legged' Staffs.
I have put a pic here which typifies Baxter's usual demeanor; he's such a placid boy who has never been slightly aggressive and just wants to play:
I don't really care what people think Baxter is like, we know and those who have spent time with him know that he is just a big softy. The kids at school love him, when I take him with me to pick my daughter up they know they can stroke him and give him a scratch and the most they'll come away with is a lot of Baxter saliva. He's even stopped (mostly) his jumping as he know if he stays down he's more likely to get attention.
Our vet and our local pet shop owners all love him as he's so friendly (if a little giddy at the pet shop as he knows they're going to treat him when he goes).
All in all, I think Staffs are Staffs and it's how you bring them up that is important. I am going to have a further read on this site now....sorry for rambling
