Re: this sounds strange ...
council can have a no pet policy on some propertys but i dont think they can segragate a breed without proper reason????.
i know some council have a funny policy about no puppys ??? which iv always found very strange as all dogs have to be pups at one point lol

Try phoning them to see what their policy is. If they allow dogs but not staffs then they could be breaking the law!

Here is a link to Leeds Council Pet Policy from the council website
http://www.leeds.gov.uk/files/Internet2007/2011/37/policy%20on%20keeping%20pets%20in%20council%20houses%202011.pdf
I've had a quick look through and it lists the 4 banned breeds and mentions about other dangerous dog breeds such as Rottweilers and that they cannot be kept if they have ever attacked someone in pubic.
I really doubt that your dog has ever attacked anyone so I do not see you having a Staffy as being a problem, it just depends on the accommodation type you are going for.

I had this problem when I moved last year, although it was private properties I was looking at. There were so many places that turned us down because of Charlie, but there is no way on this earth I would give him up so we just carried on looking, and looking, and looking, and looking! I didn't tell the landlady of this place about Charlie until she had offered us the property. She wasn't too impressed, but I told her how good he is, and that we'll pay for any damage he does (which is a lot already and we've only been here a year ) and she let us have it.
Good luck, I hope it all gets sorted for you.

I have a friend that was looking for somewhere to rent a few years back. At the the time she had a staff x collie. When she went into places to ask about houses/flats to rent a few of the people advised that she only mention that he was a colliex as people wont rent to someone with a staff because of the damage they can do (I presume they mean to the house, and this would be the same as any other breed of dog!)

Re: this sounds strange ...
I live in a council property, I was lucky, a previous tenant had owned and bred staffies here, and they had been left with a lot of damage and mess along with complaints etc. At the time of my moving in i owned a collie but i explained that i am a responsible dog owner, mine are fully insured, vaccinated and registered with the local dog warden scheme. I've never had a problem and the local dog warden even pops in for a cuppa now to see my Staff for cuddles. Good luck, I think you should be ok,

I had a council flat in Leeds for a while and I had a staffie when I moved in, they never commented. This was about 8 years ago now. X
