Re: any nutrisionst on here?
I'm not a nutritionist but I would have thought an egg every now and then would be OK.

Re: any nutrisionst on here?
An egg or two a week is fine, but no more than that really.
Sardines are great, most fish is.
I'm not a nutritionist either, just speaking from my own experience and advice from this forum.

Re: any nutrisionst on here?
I was told years ago that it was good for their coat. I'm not a nutritionist and I could be completely wrong.willowthewisp wrote:whats the reason for giving a raw egg?
I give my 2 raw egg and sardines now and again but it's really just a treat because they love it rather than any nutritional reason.

Re: any nutrisionst on here?
If giving the whole egg, (yolk and white) then an egg a day is fine

Re: any nutrisionst on here?
Charlie loves raw egg mixed in with his dry food, I don't know any dogs that don't like it

The only problem with that is that raw eggs inhibit the absorption of some vitamins/minerals. As a general rule I wouldn't give more than 2 or 3 raw eggs a week.

Yes, it's rare now. As long as the eggs are fresh & have been kept properly there's no problem.

Re: any nutrisionst on here?
I give him an egg cuz he loves it. He gets raw minced beef in the mornings and barking heads in the evenings mixed with either egg, good wet food, sardines or doggy gravy. He needs a variaty al the time and i was wondering will this be ok?? Swapping around like this??

Re: any nutrisionst on here?
An egg every other day would be OK, they do contain very good protein, but also saturated fat.
Sardines are good as they contain essential oils, protein and calcium from the fine bones.
Just make sure that he gets them as part of his diet, not the majority of his diet.

Thats why i said if you feed the white and yolk as feeding both counteracts the inhibition and so an egg a day is fine but i doubt many would feed that many anyway

Re: any nutrisionst on here?
I don't know for sure about the egg but I wouldn't give him minced beef, theres a lot of fat in mince even 'lean' varieties. You'd be better off with chopped chunks of meat or offal or raw meaty bones if you want to feed him raw meat.

Scrambled eggs are fine too, they're especially good for a sensitive tummy. It shouldn't upset their tummies if you start to add egg. Raw or cooked is fine

There is a thought that the biotin (vitamin B) in the yolk makes up for the Avitin (vitamin inhibitor) in the white, but there hasn't been enough research to make this conclusive.

I don't feed mince of any sort. I prefer chunks or meaty bones. Mince doesn't give their digestive juiced enough of a work-out! However, if you can't get hold of reasonably priced whole meat or chunks, then mince will do. Doesn't have to be beef, though - lamb/pork/chicken are just as good.

Re: any nutrisionst on here?
Dont want bones atal. Just a wee bit of raw in mornings and nuts in the evening. What about this tripe what is tripe does it contain bones in ot or is it better than minced beef??

Re: any nutrisionst on here?
No, no bones. But it is very smelly! Most dogs love it, though. Only green tripe, though. Don't give the white tripe that's for human consumption - it's been bleached & there can be traces of bleach left in it!

I was linked to a study into on an american forum but i can't find it but it showed that the amount of biotin in the yolk more then makes up for the whites

Biotin is one of the B Vitamins & is good. Avitin is a vitamin inhibitor & isn't so good. BUT by the sound of it the Biotin in the yolk cancels out the Avitin in the whites!

Re: any nutrisionst on here?
A couple of raw eggs a week is fine & is healthy for your dog. Some say that more is ok, but some say not.
But a couple a week is fine.
But a couple a week is fine.
