Videos of Troy walking on leash
Hi guys,
After reading how others dogs pull, Troy doesn't sound like much of a puller on regular walks than others. This is without him seeing something to get very excited about so he can be MUCH worse, but this is on a regular walk.
In this video you can see when the leash goes tight and how he will stop and sit when correct. You can see when the leash is loose too. Also you can see when he is close to me via my boot lol
Here is the same walk but going up a hill. Might explain why he is walking a lot nicer and by my side. You can tell he is by my side due to seeing my foot in the video
These videos might make him look like an angel but when he see's a dog / cat etc is when he gets really excited and can pull and run around in circles etc.

Re: Videos of Troy walking on leash
Nice! He's doing much better!
Don't worry too much about when he sees something - you can work on that & he'll improve with time. Last thursday my oh took Dempsey out in the afternoon & on the way home he was being really good. Walked nicely, stopped at the curb etc etc. Then a cat crossed the road. Picture a nearly 6', heavily built guy being literally dragged up the road by a 32 kilo EBT! No matter what he did, he couldn't actually stop him.
What he didn't think of was yelling "Stay!" That would've worked!

Thanks for the comments.
He is walking okay in the videos though he does reach the end of the leash and try and pull.
I think in the second video he is walking nice just because it is up hill.
He saw another dog today and wanted to greet by doing his pulling and whining. One of the people thought he was aggressive and I heard him saying 'look that dogs crazy'
How do I work on him remaining calm when he sees other dogs? Just keep up with socialisation?
And how can I stop him from getting so excited? Just as an example some kids ran in front of us which got him excited, he tried running on the leash and also started whining.

It's just going to take time, I'm afraid. Keep doing what you're doing, he's 100% better than when you first got him, isn't he?
The more you socialise him, the less obvious excitement he's going to feel when he sees other dogs etc. Keep plugging away at it!

Stella is the same, she sees a dog or kids and she starts pulling in their direction.
With dogs I sometimes let her drag me there and have a sniff if it is the same way we are going anyway.
With kids I just hold tight, sometimes I try to get her attention by speaking to her and showing her a toy or throwing sticks - sometimes it helps and sometimes it does not.
It is definitely better when she is tired after a walk - she's always much better on our way home than on our way out
I just believe it will get better; that she will calm down; that after a while she'll realise that things are going on around but she does not have to take part in everything. And it really is getting better, slowly but it is. I can go into a park full of people now and it does not need to be a complete nightmare
If I remember well you put a video here of Troy doing "fetch" absolutely perfectly and you said something like "yeah he learned that yesterday in the living room" - I think Troy must be something else so you don't need to worry, it will all settle down ><

Yeah, Troy is a lot better behaved after a walk..needs to be a very long walk though or a pack walk for him to get tired.
Troy is a very clever dog and he learns really fast! It is just difficult to make him understand what you want I guess. Because he is so food orientated, he gets VERY excited when trying to clicker train him with food. So to teach him paw I had to take his paw, then click and reward. After doing that a few times he gave me paw himself on command.
When excited and walking I don't think he even takes much notice which doesn't help LOL
