So Troy has seen my Bearded Dragon...
Had Troy two months and he has never noticed it before. They become more active in the summer and he finally has started to notice him.
My Bearded Dragon is kept in its Vivarium in the living room out of Troy's eye level but he knows it is there now and just sits looking up at it while the Beardie looks down at him lol.
Well as he had already seem him I got my GF to get it out and try an introduction. My GF sat on the couch with it while I gently held Troy by his collar trying to not add tension.
He obviously stares at it and wants to get closer and was wagging his tail. He acted exactly the same way as he would when wanting to greet a dog.
He was trying to sniff from a distance but have no idea if he would bite it or just try and sniff it.
I have put it away now and he just sits at the bottom of the Vivarium looking up now as I read this. If he lies down calm and submissive I reward him. Hope his is correct?
My only worry is now he knows it is there what might he trie when I am at work as Troy is free to roam the living room when I am not here.
He seems pretty fixated on it now.
Anyone had any similar experiences or tips they can offer?
Thanks

No experience in that area I'm afraid but you are approaching the situation the same way that I would

Well he is laid down calm and submissive now. Let's hope he just gets bored
I am going to add a lock to it and push it against the wall so it can't rock over.

My snakes and others are all in a separate room but the boys have met them loads of times and TBH are bored of them now!

Glad to hear it!
Hopefully Troy will get bored too, though the first thing he did was entering the house from a walk was run straight up to the Viv
He is upstairs with me now sleeping. He is physically and mentally exhausted from a pack walk.

Lol reminds me of the pic i got of lexi when i decided to let her see the budgie. Somehow i don't think they will ever be best friends
I would just be very careful, dogs will kill and eat pretty much anything that moves. They might be fine for aggggges then just suddenly kill it, it is in their nature and there is nothing you can do about it. If he is fixating you might want to keep him out of the living room when you are out, he may try to get up to look in close and accidently knock the cage over and really hurt himself

He still looks when it moves but right now he is a sleep on the rug and ain't bothered about it.
I'm off to the cinema tonight probably so we'll have to see. I have moved it up to the wall so it can't sway back and forth. Don't think there is any danger of it falling over.

Re: So Troy has seen my Bearded Dragon...
I used to keep pet mice and hamsters-obviously not the same as a lizard but Romeo was great friends with all of them, the friendliest female, Maylin in particular. They used to kiss each other through the bars of the cage.
I doubt he'd do anything to the lizard (does he/she have a name?) sounds like he's just curious. Reptiles aren't natural prey for dogs in the wild. To the best of my knowledge those lizards don't move very much do they? He'll get bored of watching it do nothing very soon.
My friend has a snake and her dog (a very lively collie x Alsatian with a high prey drive) had a good sniff of it and has happily ignored it for years now. The same dog also lived with a rabbit.

Hey,
You're probably right, he seems more curious than anything but there isn't really a way I can be sure as one snap and its all over!
He did come in contact with a crow that must of had a broken wing though and he just sniffed it.

Re: So Troy has seen my Bearded Dragon...
Yeah.
Troy gets excited and wants to 'greet' the lizard as he does dogs. I'm sure he'd just sniff it but I'd rather not risk it.
Troy hadn't been exposed alot to animals and other things until he came to me.

Chance hadn't seen pretty much anything as he's a rescue when we got him at 18 months, he's learnt to respect the reptiles but he can't be trusted with the little furries though

My previous boy Taz (Staffy cross) met my beardy Nelly through the glass at first then we did what you did 1 hold the dog 1 hold the beardy in the end we had them both out on the floor nelly on her lead and taz free he had a little sniff and then left her to it we had no problem with them he got bored after a while an just left her to get on with her life in the viv lol. I used to walk round with Nelly clinging to my jumper she would sleep on my shoulder an Taz on my knee.

I agree with Hayley above, wouldn't risk it. My daughter's hamster is kept separate from Misty in the conservatory, whilst Misty has free run in the rest of the house. The smell and movement of your dragon could cause an incident.
