They can sometimes be territorial of their home and not accepting of new dogs. Here is a link to help you understand body language

If you think things are becoming problamatic seperate them for a bit and then slowly reintrouduce them.

get a water spray gun if things get out of hand spray them both this always works with my 2! i only have to point it at them most of the time now and there both off in a flash! i also have a crate for chester so if time outs needed i know he can go in there ( but i never use as a punishment)

a spray gun is not the answer for the first visit. it should be on neutral ground and not punished. if they get on they get i=on if they dont they dont. you cant force it and there is o point taking home a dog that your original dog doesnt get on with life would be misserable for everyone and as for time out. a dog is not a child you cannot say go to the naughty crate. you need to deal with the issue as it arises and a firm no bad boy should be enough if you are consistant with your trianing methods.

Re: introducing new dog to my present dog ..
i completely disagree with you a water gun stops them in their tracks is a non violent way to intervene and experiencing my 2 when they DO sometimes get carried away a water gun works really well. and i started using this the 2nd week i got chester who was a full on puppy and wanted to fight willow constantly . i also did not say send too crate if naughty i said this was NOT a punishment read what people say b4 replying your answer of saying "bad boy" being enough is just not realistic i have 2 dogs that need telling sometimes but when i 1st introduced them they needed telling all the time!

Idi , everyone has their own way of doing things and if it works and its not cruel then it can do no harm. The situation is as it is now , not on neutral ground so please everyone lets stay practical and helpful, we cannot wind back the clock
When you say they are very vocal , is it full on bare teeth and all, it couldn't just be very rough play ?? You are the person to judge as you are there and I don't know how much experience you have or not. I know when Tilly had her first lodger they played extremely rough and it was a fine line between fighting and playing but they are staffys not poodles, but then when they had tired each other out they would cuddle up in bed together
and BTW welcome from me and Tilly There are some extremely experienced people on here with more than one dog and I'm sure you can get some very helpful advice - best of luck

Re: introducing new dog to my present dog ..
hi just a update on my two staffies things are calming down a little now my dog will tolerate the new bitch but still not trusted to play together of the lead , although shes not showing any signs of being afraid of him. not sure when the best time will be to let them both of the lead as i think he may hurt her still , any ideas ????they play get on the leads whilst out walking even has a kiss when on the leads at home before and after walk...i am aware its going to take time and patience with little steps ..

if things are starting to calm down then i would say just carry on with what you are doing, get them both tired out whilst walking on lead and then may be let them off and see how they are, just watch their body language and be prepared to put them back on their leads, sasha is very vocal in her play and im sure to some one that did'nt know her they would think she was going to attack!just give it time and hopefully they be best friends
