Well p!ssed !

... decided to eventually start lookin for another 4x4 after being an off roader for years, and going back to "normal" cars and not liking it .. started to narrow down a few of the trucks I'm after, and thought, I'll just check the whole road tax thing before going to look at any ..... and ALL the ones I want are in the "M" tax band ... £475 A YEAR to tax !!!!!!! no way am I payin that every year (I only do about 7k miles each year )

So gotts start lookin at older ones now (pre March 2001 ) ...

That's such a lot!

On the bright side older vechiles are easier to fix and the parts are cheaper

Hmmm, dosent take a lot to confuse me , but from the info in that link, it looks like I could still get say .. a Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2.7 CRD, on an 04/05 plate which would still be classed as a band "K" at £270 a year .. coz it was was manufactured before 2006 !! ... is that write ?

probably not as from what i can see is it's all based on co2 emissions, so an 04/05 would be higher than a newer one

I've got the Peugeot 107 urban, as I need a really economical car for city driving for work and yes 20 quid for the year to tax it!

Looked on the DVLA site (and a couple others) and it would seem that since the last budget a couple weeks ago, as long as a car was registered before 23rd March 06, it wont be taxed any higher than band K making it around £275 even tho the C02 emissions are higher than those for that band ... GET IN!

Andy i have a Honda CRV classed as all wheel drive not 4 wheel drive its only £220 a year

I am totally starting to rethink my idea of driving lessons! The lessons are expensive enough but it's going to be much more expensive than I htought to run a car by the sound of it!!

Im learning to drive soon to take my test! need a car though cos of th arthrtus in my knee make it a hell of alot easier to get around
