Re: Hand Reared Puppies
I am no expert but i have been casing forums and google for the most part of the last few weeks..
There are certain things that there mothers teach them in stages... and it is very very crutial to how they will behave as an adult dor. If i can find it again i will post it for you.. made perfect sense once i read it,
I picked up a staffy 6 years ago at 5.5 weeks... she has terrible anxiety all her days
I would not do it again

Re: Hand Reared Puppies
I've replied on the other thread! Here it is..........
Many hand reared pups are fine. Many are not.
They don't learn their basic manners from their mum & can be incredibly bold & challenging due to their being handled so much during their early days. If you're new to dogs I wouldn't even contemplate it. If you're experienced & you have the time & ability to train & socialise, then by all means consider it, but be very choosy with the pups on offer. Don't necessarily go for the boldest - you may bite off more than you can chew!
Dempsey was hand reared for only 3 or 4 days & he's the boldest & most dominant male I've ever known. He's challenging most of the time!
I'll delete the duplicate!

Re: Hand Reared Puppies
the other thing that you need to take into consideration is if your still wanting to show a hand reared pup may not have the right temprament for the show ring

Re: Hand Reared Puppies
it mat or not have the right temperament for the show ring, but im sure there are plenty of show dogs on the circuit that have been hand reared as pups

Re: Hand Reared Puppies
I helped hand raise my local farmers two pup rottweilers after the mum died. they turned out to be great working dogs and they love his two generations of grand kids their really good family pets. some say if you know what you are doing hand raising a pup is great because they respect you like their mother. i don't agree. but i think hand raising or not it depends on your skills whether the pup will turn out a good one or not. just like bringing a fully grown one home if you have the skills it'll be just as good as having a pup.
