Re: I cant sleep..... I am getting the cranks waiting
Well, now...............tough question.
Bandit used to wake up quite early, but didn't make a fuss straight away. He'd come into the bedroom (he could open the door!!) and jump on the bed. Then he'd lay there & shake till one of us opened our eyes. As soon as our eyes were open he took that as his cue for a walk!
Dempsey on the other hand is a real stop-in-bed. On mornings like this ( -7c, he stays in his bed till my son gets up & then he goes in to share his breakfast! THEN he'll want his walk. HOWEVER, my husband is on permanent early shift work & so I'm often up at about 4am to see him off & Dempsey will go into the garden & then dash straight back to his bed, curl up tight & turn his back to the room!

Mel i'll post you some of my tablets for my trapped nerve they wont make you sleep like there supposed too but you also wont have a clue what day it is, i gave my dad his birthday present the other day 4 day's early, he walked off looking more worried than me i think he thought dementia had set in and he'd forgot his own birthday

Re: I cant sleep..... I am getting the cranks waiting
Cocodamol, diazapan, dicloflax and some other one there meant to be pain killer, muscle relaxants to stop the spasm trapping the nerve in reality there are rip off only time is the true healer of a trapped sciatic nerve it dulls the pain a bit but getting no sleep

just something for you to read Mel, as i know you have young kids.
prepare the young members of the household on pet care. children should learn not only to love their charges but to respect them and treat them with the consideration they would give to all living things. it must be emphasised to kids that the puppy has certain needs, just as humans have, and all family members must take an active role in ensuring that these needs are met. someone must feed the puppy. someone must walk him a couple of times a day or clean up after her if she is trained to relieve herself on newspaper. someone must groom her coat clean her ears, and clip her nails from time to time. someone must see to it that the puppy gets sufficient exercise and attention each day. A child who has a pet to care for learns responsibility.none the less, parent guidance is a essential part of his learning experience. many a child has been known to love a pet to death, squeezing and hugging the animal in ways which are irritating or even painful. you have a lot to look forward to Mel

So very true Shane,
I have printed out a list of "rules" from Santa... ie ..
You must sit down to hold puppy
NO one is to go into puppies house ( crate)
You must not pick puppy up by her arms
do not smack puppy for being naughty ( she is a baby)
do not pull her ears
Do not EVER feed puppy from the table..
Things like that.. just so they know from the start
I have enrolled the pup and the kids in the "kids and puppy preschool" run by our vet... theey will learn how to walk her and what they can and cant do with her... how to feed her etc. it is also more of a social thing for her to get used to kids and other dogs.. they will all be between 7-16 weeks of age.. then they move up the classes as they go.
My kids are very very good with the kitten , although Calahni sure gives him a work out with dress ups at times.. poor thing oftern looks at me like "help mum, she is trying to put a dress on me".. lol
It will be alot of hard work.. but seeings as tho they have 7 weeks off school and they all have very high iq's they will be fine.
all three of them are working at school levels 3 grades above them... god help blondey when they reach teenage years.. they are already spelling better than i can at 10 and 7! lol
thanks for the tips Shane x

Re: I cant sleep..... I am getting the cranks waiting
There is nothing worse than a dog jumping on you.. I cant stand it and wont stand for it...
My friends dog was a nightmare with it.. he is a staffy x GSD... nice looking sandy colour.. but i tell you it cost her $500 to get a proffesional out to stop him jumping up. He was a rescue dog from RSPCA and was 5 months.. hence his dumping i would gues.... NIGHTMARE.. she could not even get out the door to hanging the washing without him climbing up her chest.. she is only a wee lass too... ( god I am turning irish!)
the kids will be told that they are to sit on the floor and let Holly come to them and no climbing or jumping.. she seems quiet placid with her litter the times i have visited her.. so hopefully she has a calm nature !!! LOL

Re: I cant sleep..... I am getting the cranks waiting
my tip is to resist the temptation when there young of allowing them to put paws up and receive a stroke when they greet people to stop jumping or excitement teach them to sit to be stroked it saves kids and old people being flattened when the dogs bigger, and always approach them from the side not face on
its 1.57am these sleeping tablets are working a treat not ~
