Sleep Apnea?
Might sound strange but can dogs have sleep apnea?
Sometimes when Teds in a deep sleep he'll snore really loudly, then we've noticed he'll stop snoring and not breath for about 5-10 seconds then do a big snore.
Is this normal?

I think I would take him to the vet. I'm not sure how serious it is in dogs but it can kill people.

Re: Sleep Apnea?
thats ok my OH does that as well its annoying cos you just want to give them a dig and start them off again. aparently every naimal be it human dog or bear do that a couple of times a night. about 3 or 4 is fine if its only a few seconds but if its more frequent or longer periods then it may be a simptom of a problem. i think if you go the vets for a check up they will put your mind at rest. you should see my OH splutter whe he starts up again its so funny he doesnt even wake up

Haha Yeah we do have to give him a nudge to snap him out of it! Not sure how many times he does it but I noticed it a good couple of months ago (hes 7 months now). He tends to do it at night when he's had a big day and he's really tired.
Ill keep my eye on him and mention it to the vet next time we go as it is quite worrying when he stops breathing!

Re: Sleep Apnea?
When I think about it, during the night he is a quiet sleeper and dosn't snore at all. It is when he is settling down that he'll snore like that. So hopefully nothing to worry about

Re: Sleep Apnea?
Millie has done that a couple of times. One of the times I had to shake her quite roughly and she started to breathe again. Took her about half an hour to be fully with it again, scared the life out of me. I took her to the vet and she just asked why I was trying to wake her up Thankfully it hasn't happened for a while

Re: Sleep Apnea?
My friend use to do that! I'd be sleeping over and she'd just suddenly bolt awake like "I forgot to breathe!"
She didn't have sleep apnea she's just weird haha
