i think a form of national service would be a really good idea as the young of today show no respect .
but not it should be made compulsorily as i think if kids can get a job and make something of there life fair be it but if kids just want to Finnish school and just lazy around they should be drafted into national service

Would love too see it back, make youngsters with no respect buck their ideas up.

No if it was mandatory for ALL young people, those without jobs for X amount of time etc but not for everyone

I don't think it's a good idea. National service doesn't neccessarily make someone more responsible

Not really people in the service can be just as much $%*holes as anyone else these days.
Last thing these youth need is the actual know how when it comes to violence whether it be with guns or knives.
I think it may work for some but not for all. so yes and no.

If we are discussing mandatory miitary service than absolutley not. That would simply lead to better trained criminals that no you don't shot a gun sideways

it worked ok in the past yes there be tougher gangstar you never stop that but they will alot more respect to people then they do now, the wannabe today they dont care for anything or anyone
national service would stop kid turning to gangs and go on to have normal life after it.

I could see how some mandatory national service would make sense. You could pay a minimum wage and provide educational benefits at the end of the madatory period. It would provide job training and an educational benefit.
Madatory military service is simply a terrible idea IMHO. Soldiers are expensive to train and if you force someone into service they are most likely to leave as soon as possible. This takes away from the training opportunities for the ones that want to be there. You also have to purchase more equipment and supplies that will put a drain on the entire system.
Proper military training can be very dangerous if used for criminal activity. It goes above and beyond what law enforcement is taught. It's really not about toughness but more about knowledge, training and repitition.
I think the answer lies more in family values and education. Not that every educated person will be a productive member of society but education does provide more job opportunities and most crimes directly correlate to socio econonmic contiditions.

Something like it would be a good idea yes I agree. However I do remember that the Krays were also in the army and learned many of their techniques there.
