Had a nice hour or 2 at the beach !

Really enjoyed it .. not as windy as I thought it would be and it was boiling ! Took Monty off the lead, apprehensively(!), but he was good .... until .... he spotted to 2 horse riders right up on the sand banks

Off he went, I screamed and screamed until I felt my lungs in my throat ! Never ran so fast, my feet were going like the god damn clappers ... recall was no good right now ! He got up to the horses, the woman on one of the horses was obviously fully trained with the way she was talking and calming the other girl on the other horse and also the horses .. Monty was slowly sniffing out the horses, while inbetween this she was telling me my dog should be on a lead ... on the beach ... although I told her what I thought of her suggestion and then told her she should be galloping on a field and jumping over trees.

Anyway ... we spoke OK after that, she advised me that if Monty got at the back of the horse and the horse kicked, a kick could kill him .. so she was calming her horses, then Monty decided to jump up on the front of the feckin' horse ! I was starting to live a very frightening nightmare ... because he then decided to go sniff the back legs of the horse .. then the horse's leg twiched , my hands covered my face ... then I said 'Monty want a treat' a few times, then he came to me.

I really did fear for my life ! After that, we got talking, she said a dog came up to the back of her horse previously and broke the dogs jaw Then she went on to say Monty was a lovely dog, she used to breed staffies and then she took on an EBT.

Not one to sound like a kill joy but it could have been much worse, a friend of mines dog was blinded by a cow

I don't know what to do Janey to be honest .. I need to give him some very firm recall training, but I want some help with it. I think a flexi lead still might snap even if I buy a strong one, he bolted it towards the horses, he is such a strong dog !

if you got a flexi compact 3 for large dog it's not going to snap my sam is a puller it's still working prefect after nearly 7 years

Thanks for that, doesn't look strong though ? He snapped it when it was fully extended, so it just snapped from the wheel inside when it was fully rolled out ..

if it snap i will give you your money back my sam is a puller and he asn't snap his

well thats your days excitement over and done with. its a bugger when you let them go cos theres no one there and then someone pops up and suprises you. its happened to all at one time or another i'm sure i know it has with me. well at least before and after that the day was nice cant wait to see the pics.

Hopefully a nice strong lead will make it ok on the beach next time ... he clearly needs alot of training I guess !

i think most dog dont liek horses, i know my sam would go crazy if he saw one

theres also these ones. they are 50 feet long so lots of freedom while not being able to chase the horses and theyre cheaper

Steve, this was the first time he seen a horse ... and it was a bout a mile away as we were waaaaaaaay out.

i wouldn't have one of these because if thye start to running and your not ready for it you going get rope burn across your fingers

when my sam was young he could see a bigger dog a miles off also that why he dont go off the lead anymore

Max met a gorgeous male staffy today in town (both on lead of course) .. we saw each other on the opposite sides of the street, then they must have crossed over and come to find us

He was a 4yr old male, very well muscled, tiny waste, lovely head ... red/white (looked a bit like Saxon on here) ... they were jumpin all over each other, and loved it .... I told the couple about the forum and said they should join

We keep Suki on a long lead at the beach so she can't get away. Never saw a horse on the beach before but they do kick really hard.

Ben's dad's staffy was kicked in the head by one of their horses - I was so angry with them because they didn't even bother to take him to the vet, I saw him a few days after it happened and his eye was all swollen and red (where it should be white) and had a big graze on the side of his face, poor thing, but he stays away from the horses now...

when we take Russell out there he takes no notice of the horses. and mostly stays away from them.

we were out walking in the bush once and some horse riders appeared, Russ didn't know what they were and was too scared to investigate!

Monty must have no fear! lucky it wasn't worse

I think Monty is just a dull dog ! lol
