Lemmy's going to the vet (update)
have to take lemmy to the vet this afternoon. out of hours rates wouldnt you know it lottie and lemmy both play rough but sometimes she gets too rough and drags him round by his neck. we have been working on this and trying to get them to play a bit calmer but so far no joy. anyway she has broke the skin this time and he now has an infected neck. all the back of his neck is swollen and there are 2 puntures which are oozing the usual gooey crap. we have had to remove his collar cos this is annoying him and he is back on the harness for his walks just now which is a pain cos he pulls like a tank on that

Aw, poor Lemmy. Lottie needs to treat her little brother with a bit more care!
Hope it doesn't cost you too much.

to be honest caryll he starts it. he jumps on her so she will tell him off and then they start to play but its rough play resulting in this. i asked the trainer this morning and she said to get the bottle with stones in and every time they grab each other rattle it and dont just say no shout it. i have to be a bit more full on than them in this situation aparently. we'll see how it goes

well we're back and £48 lighter to be honest i thought it would be more. antibiotic injection antibiotic tablets shaved neck and emptied anal glands and to top it all we had to put the collar back on cos we needed to grab something to hold him
it looked worse than i thought as well once it was shaved she's made a mess of him. if they can do this playing i would hate to see the result of a fight.

Poor Lemmy! Ouch. Monte likes it rough too. Thankfully Frosty has an easy squeaker and I can stop it before it gets that intense. The shave always makes it look the worst I think.

Poor little Lemmy, I hope lottie gives him some nice cuddles to say sorry!
Hope it heals quick for him
Also I must say I'm suprised it didn't cost more, Mia was 180 just for some anti inflammatory eye drops a little while back! It's always money well spent tho if it's for my little lady!

Are you sure that was playing and not a good telling off, my lot rough house all the time, sure they get scrapes and bruises but a puncture like that has never happened, that looks like a good telling off, dogs don't just have accidents like that, they know their own strengh, they never draw blood unless they wanted too.

Re: Lemmy's going to the vet (update)
no it wasnt a good telling off she does give him them but this was her dragging him down the grass by his neck. he was laid on his back with his tail wagging tongue hanging out like it was a game no sound nothing as she dragged him. i shouted to stop and 2 days later the infection started and when he shaved his neck this is what we saw. he is full of little tiny scabs and scrapes but this was just getting dragged. the only lottie has done to herself is get a black eye from where she forgot to put her front feet down before she landed after a runa nd jump the silly girl

plus you have to remember that lottie is just finding her feet in the doggy playing bit. she has never been taught doggy etiquette or play or anyhting she is still learning. lemmy hangs on her but like you say he never breaks skin because he knows how far to go. lottie doesnt she is rough and boistrous and is still learning so i am not upset over the way his neck is she didnt do it malitiously if she had i am sure he would look worse than he does

Julie, so glad you rescued Lottie. So many homes wouldn't be able to help her the way you have. She will learn, but glad Lemmy is not timid about a rough and tumble! Monte would be in heaven to play with them! Sometimes he is too much for frosty and defo piggy.

Re: Lemmy's going to the vet (update)
when puppies are together in a litter they learn to play and their mother tells them off when it gets too rough and they tell each other off its how they learn. lemmy learnt how to play and all the doggy etiquette and stuff while in puppy training and playing on the park. lottie we know has never been socialised so for her to be in a home with another dog to play with is new to her. to be in a home where she is not constantly scared is new to her so these things are to be expected now and again. she will learn. they have played rough with each other chase each other all over and this is the first time anything like this has happened. they had a spat once a few weeks after she moved in but nothing since they get on great are happy together and if i thought any different then i would worry. theyre just daft giddy dogs but lottie has to be taught how far is acceptable and thats where we come in to let her know and teach her these things bless her she's a good girl just too full on at times but does listen when she's told
