She's at her leg again!
Sasha appears to be "nibbling" her leg again her rear leg and now also the inside of her front leg is looking a bit thin on hair!
her hind leg was starting to grow the hair back and i just noticed her at it i thought she had stopped! vet had a look and said its most likely habbit i cant get her to keep a dressing on it she finds ways to get it off the vet said a sock but i think she`l get it off she said if not a sock then its a lamp shade the areas she nibbles are not red ect no cuts
the only thing was she brushed past a paint pot a few months ago and got paint on her i washed it off right away with a damp cloth so i can understand that area but the inside of her front leg i dont understand why she has started doing it there she gets a flea treatment every month from vet aswell as a weight check and the vet said she could not see any visible signs why she is doing it!
Can i do anything is there anything i can put on the areas that will stop her nibbling it? and not harm her in the proccess
thanks :*(

Re: She's at her leg again!
to be honest i dont like the other vet in my area i had a bad dealing with them when i took my cat to them
im just so frustrated at her for doing it she looks neglected and she's far from it lol
the vet only had a quick look as it was just a routine drop in for a weight check im going to try get appointment tomorrow i was thinking about that bitter apple spray but i dont know if that will irritate her skin

Re: She's at her leg again!
It could be a mild allergic reaction.
Can you think of anything that could fit the pattern? Something in her diet or immediate environment that could have changed, so the irritation went, and than changed back to bring the irritaton back?
They can be allergic to a wde range of things.

Re: She's at her leg again!
If you can determine that is is indeed a bad habit of hers and not some sort of itch or irritation then I recommend putting pepper or mild chilli powder on the area to discourage her from gnawing. But please make sure she hasn't got some sort of irritation first as that won't help it at all. >.<
Staffies do tend to get random skin problems. My boy got two bald patches last summer for no reason at all, the patches took about 5 months to grow back. It was so weird.

I'd wait to see what the vet says. Bitter Apple could work if it is just a habit and not a condition but make sure to ask the vet

Re: She's at her leg again!
i cant even say its her food change as she did it when she was on james well belloved and is doing it now on pero STB
bedding has not been washed since it started so it cant be washing powder ect
i still firmly believe the paint has irretated her despite being washed off seconds after it got there and its become habbit
last weight check the vet said its most likely habit as despite the area being short on hair there was no redness to the skin ect no visible signs of mites she gave us a stronger spot on to rule out a mite that puppys get i cant remember the name i beleive its habbit or some kind of mental issue from the minute we got her she was allways jumpy and wary of things if some of you remember she was only 8 weeks old and the people we got her from had somehow trapped her in a reclining chair and she had a few cuts to her snout
going to phone vets first thing 9am
thanks folks

Re: She's at her leg again!
Duggie, My daughter suggested that it's possible that it could be mange, theres's a lot about at the moment. Is it possible that she's been in contact with foxes? She said 'it can present that way' although I'm sure that your vet would have considered that.

Re: She's at her leg again!
just back from vets they gave us fuciderm gel they wanted to get her in and sedate her and take skin scrape he said they were looking for a skin mite with a funny name he said the reason they sedate her is the skin scrape has to be that deep she`l bleed we opted for a less invasive treatrment in the hopes this works if not then its the skin scrape
twice a day with fuciderm gel she also has a shad on shes just sitting there non responsive

Re: She's at her leg again!
dog lose heat through their paws so they can become very irratated and spread up the legs and with habit can turn nasty
there are loads of things it could be but incase it is habbit you gotta be cruel to be kind. harness/socks strap them to harness some how or correct her when she does it, self mutilation is very common and horrible but if i'm honest their usual through bordom or there was an ich there once so when she scratched it, it felt good/comforting. nib it in the bud asap.
something as simple as leave in dog shampoo she might hate the taste and stop doing it.
