Hi everyone,

I am a dog lover to my very soul and am at the time in my life when it is time to get our first family dog.
I have 2 small children of 5 and 1. I myself frew up around dogs and have owned a few heinz 57's as we call them here in Ireland.
I have a fair ammount of experience with staffs and am certain that this is the breed for us.
We live in rural Ireland and have plenty of space for an energetic dog or 2
My daughter and I have enjoyed the great videos and pictures on this site since I joined so I thank you for that.
I am looking for a good breeder but am having a bit of trouble finding one in Ireland.
I am looking for a blue pup (dog or bitch) around May/June and am willing to travel to wherever we need to go in either Ireland, Wales, Scotland or England.
I would like a pup from show stock as I would like to give our local shows a try as teaching the kids about training and handling is important to us aswell as dispell some of the myths about staffs in the process.
I would appreciate it if we were pointed in the right direction.
Hopefully we will have some photo's and videos to upload of our own soon.

Hi there from Max and me ... really difficult on the breeder thing (especially involving the "B" word )

What I did, was find a specific stud I like, do a bit of research on them, and try to find out if they have had any matings recently and who the bitch was .. this will narrow things down a bit, and focus your search rather than just going for what comes up at the time your lookin, it becomes a bit of a treasure hunt, but its worth it if you know what you want

We advise as much as poss to rescue/re-home on here for obvious reasons, but there isnt anything wrong with wanting a pup from a specific breeder, as long as they are a good, responsible breeder, with healthy dogs, and dont try to hoik the price up to a rediculas level!!

Edit: "2 small children 5 and 1" ... please make sure you can cope with a very boystrous pup with sharp teeth!!! it aint easy!! ... and even harder with very young kids

Andy got there before me i done the same find a stud you like then check for matings as said it a hunting game but the rewards are worth it.

ps if your thinking of showing blue may not be the couler for you as they seem to get overlooked a little in the ring as there seen to have slight faults ie nose couler and conformation.
not that i can see but the trained eye can be fickle lol

Hi George and family from myself and Ali here in Dublin. , I rescued Ali from dogs trust so can't help on the breeding issue im afraid. Have u tried buy and sell ect. A friend of mine breeds pure Scottish terriers and advertises in there. U might find some staff breeders who do the same??? Good luck in your search

Some good advice in there.
You're right there are exciting times ahead.
As I've said, I've only ever owned cross breeds of so many different varieties that it was hard to tell what they were so looking for a pure bred is new to me.
I'm bringing my daughter to our first dog show in Dublin on St. Patricks weekend so we hope to make some contacts there.
