Troy - 1st time on long lead playing fetch
Rescued Troy 4 weeks ago. Has some issues with socialisation with other dogs but that's another story!
I was not sure how he would be off the lead so bought a long lead of Ebay. This is the first time I have used it and his recall seems very good. Even when walking around he stops and looks back at me to see where I am and doesn't appear to want to go very far away from me. When I call him back he mostly comes straight away, which is great. When he see's another dog that's a different story though.
Here is the small video:

Thanks.
Not well trained when I got him and still got some way to go. Only taught him fetch and drop yesterday in the living room.

Re: Troy - 1st time on long lead playing fetch
Thanks.
Went back out with him on the long lead but never had hold of it, so he was basically just running around as if he was off the lead.
Only problem with the long lead is, he saw someone on a bike and bolted towards them, not aggressively, I think he is just intrigued by bikes...his recall is good but not when something has his attention. I had to grab the long lead and because he had built up some speed he ended up doing a somersault once the tension hit! I don't want to end up damaging his neck!

That was really good, he's coming on well.
Don't worry too much about hurting him with the line (that sounds really nasty, doesn't it?), he should remember that next time & will hopefully slow down at least when you call!
What I used to do with Dempsey is shout "Steady!" & for some reason that slowed him up.

Re: Troy - 1st time on long lead playing fetch
Thanks for the tips and comments.
I actually have him running around and playing fetch without holding the long line. It's only if he's sees another dog or something that interests him when I have to grab it.

Thanks!
I took him to a different park today on his long lead and there were occassions where he would listen and come back to me, but other times where he would of trotted off if he wasn't on the lead.

Thanks.
I actually just let it hang and throw the ball so far that he is basically off the lead. I leave it on for the times he gets distracted or see's another dog and I have to grab it.
And I got mine from Ebay:

Yeah they are nice and cheap. Not had any problems with the strength either. Troy had a little 'trot' towards another dog but didn't come back unfortunately, therefore once he came to the end of the lead he ended up doing a somersault backwards in the air.
