Overbreeding.
Did anyone happen to see the article in The Sunday Post today? Talking about 'drug addicts' overbreeding SBT's and if nothing is done about it, then a mass cull will be unavoidable. What's everyone's view on this? I can't get a link to the article but if anyone manages to then feel free to post it! There's also a bit below it in the paper saying that SBT's are 'loyal, intelligent, affectionate and are particularly good with children'

true its a kc registerd bread with a good kc write up of temprament (prob one of the best around kiddies). just have to find the "journelists" and poke them in the eyes until they see the truth on staffys and stop em peddleing crap about them. BSl on top of that we have a hill to climb. just wonder how many staffs go unhomed because of crap unjust media stories..crying shame as they make the perfect dog for families with children

Re: Overbreeding.
well we don't know what they have said, but with how thing are i dont think they have a choice but to put dog down there no money around these days
Re: Overbreeding.
Sorry I didn't, I think its a Scottish paper...
It's the druggies/addicts that breed them to pay for their fix or materialistic goods around these area's too, or people who just don't take the responsibility to supervise or spay/neuter.
Banning ownership doesn't work either as I've known of people who are banned from owning dogs, to breed staffy and she was returned with her pups to the owner after being in police custody - how does that work ??
I completely disagree with a cull, but the kennels are choc a bloc with the effects of irresponsible citizens. I guess it wouldn't be too long before some bureaucratic suggested a cull (assuming it would be rescue dogs over a certain time span to be culled).
Education of facts that genuinely matter with buying/responsible ownership/breeding, really does need to be hit home to people, hard and fast, as soon as possible, as ultimately it's the dogs and reputations that suffer. but that only works if owners want it to :/
A cull is not a cure to the increasing problem, merely a temporary fix.
AGREED - positive info - could hep to re-home them and not cull them

Re: Overbreeding.
yeah im skint too, my dog eats better than me. I took him on through thick and thin, times are hard now but i dont smoke and take an easy meal so he eats what he needs to for a pup. I just think putting a dog down is fireing from a wrong attack angle. so frustrating steve on so many levels id love to say you were wrong but have to ultimatly agree with you. feral breading and media misinformation has lead to a no win situation

Re: Overbreeding.
only way of fixing the homeless is fixing soecity. it's pointless trying to fix something if you not going fix the main problem first.

No, they won't ban the staff. But I agree, it's more likely that they will say that all rescue staffs must be pts rather than be rehomed.
