Advise on feeding Bruce :)
Hello
Bruce is 8wks old and he weighs 2.7kg
At the mo i am giving him 3 Meals aday, i give him bakers complete puppy soked with a little warm water on the morning (I have been told its crap so i will be changing to a better brand when its gone), he gets the same but with a little Winalot puppy tinned meat midday and the same as the morning at about 6pm.
I only give him a handfull of complete food at every meal, is this enough? I i was to go by the guide lines on the packaging i would be feeding him 430g and that seem like way to much.
Sorry to seem a bit thick but hes my first puppy.
Kind Regards
Mark

Go on the guidelines, there piglets at that age and will burn it off, I would change from those brands though, not the greatest.

Re: Advise on feeding Bruce :)
We've been feeding Rascal Raw food since she was 6wks old - we feed according to the "Whole Prey" model. hehe, sounds complicated, but really isn't! We feed her 80% meat, 10% bone and 10% offal (5% of which is liver). It is so satisfying watching her tearing into her meat and crunching up her bones There's a group on Facebook called "Raw Feeding (RF)" who are full of encouragement and there's loads of info on how to get started. Rascal has fabulous teeth as a result
If you're going to continue with the packaged stuff, then as Janey said, follow the guidelines on the pack. Puppies burn loads of energy and definitely stick with 3 to 4 meals a day, their tummies are small and they need frequent feeding to fuel their growth!
We'd love to see a photo (hint...hint..)
Congratulations on the new addition to your family

Re: Advise on feeding Bruce :)
Definitely change & don't wait till the Bakers is finished. Get some good food now & start to mix it in with the Bakers gradually over a few days so that you don't upset his tum.
To be honest, 430g isn't all that much when you spread it over 3 meals. He really doesn't need the wet food with it as the dry will have everything he needs. Pups need so much more than adults, pound for pound, because of all the growing (and playing) they have to do.
When my boy was 8 weeks he was still having 4 meals a day! That was cut down to 3 at about 3 or 4 months, and then down to 2 at about 6 or 7 months for life. He's fed raw as well, but the principle is the same - little and often!

Re: Advise on feeding Bruce :)
so ive given Bruce 140g of dried food with a little warm water today and without the tinned meat,
He would not touch it!!
The only way he would eat his food is if i mixed a spoonfull of tinned meat in with it.
Is there any way i can get him to eat it without? if not what is the better brand tinned meat to give him?
Cheers

When I first got Moo she was on a wet/dry mix diet and I used Royal Canin, but she was on a veterinary diet.
Have you tried better quality biscuits yet?

Guys
The honest answer? There aren't any.
Tinned food is at least 70% water. That means there's only a minimum of 30% goodness, and that's supposing there are no fillers/grains etc!
A dog will rarely starve itself. If you put the food down & it doesn't get eaten, take it up again after about 15 minutes & don't give any more until the next feed. Your pup will soon realise that the food that's in front of it is the best there is!
