Insurance
Hi.
Can anyone give advice about good pet insurance companies please. We had our other Staffy with M&S, they were great, but they seem to be quite steep now. Money aint the big issue, although dont want to be ripped off, its more to do with the quality and what we get for the money. Hope you can help?
Cheers

Re: Insurance
I was with M&S until the 1st renewal & then they wanted to double the premium - shame because I liked them.
I changed to Sainsburys & have been with them for nearly 2 years. They were reasonably priced & have paid out without any problems when I've claimed (£4000+ with Sainsbury's & £1500+ with M&S), and when they sent the renewal through they only wanted an extra £2 per month, despite the fact that I'd claimed quite a lot!

Re: Insurance
We did have Rocky insured with Petplan. The first year we paid approx £18.00 per month then when we received the renewal letter they wanted £22.50 ish per month and we had never claimed on it.
We have now gone onto Argos insurance which is only £15.00 ish per month for the same cover that we had before which is a lifetime insurance (illness is covered forever)
We are as yet still to make a claim though so cannot say how good they are at that side of things.
PS: If you book through Compare the Market you get a free toy meerkat which we have just received.

Thanks. By the way what are your Excesses. When we were with M&S we had nil and they were really good at paying up, Zac had epilepsy so was needing meds each month. In 5 yrs tho the policy went up from £10.25 to £26.10. So thats why Im asking around.

Re: Insurance
With Rocky insured at Argos the Excess is £65.00 per incident per policy year.
No idea about the Kennel Club

Re: Insurance
We've got our two insured with Petplan
Excess is £50 and we made sure that we had Cover for life on the policy.
Our renewal came in this year at the same price as last year, so we happily stayed with them
Plus the vet practice we use deal with them directly so if we did have to claim the vet would just need our policy number and would then contact with Petplan themselves.

Ours are insuranced with Petplan they're good although we havent made a claim yet. I was with More than before but had quite a few problems with them, also they didn't pay the vet directly but petplan does so i do recommend it

Re: Insurance
I'm with animal friends too, went for their mid level insurance.. Thinks its a good cover but the excess is £99 per claim! I pay about £15 a month, if I had thought about it I may have chosen to pay more a month to get a lower excess but I was too excited about getting my free meerkat with compare the market!!

I don't think any of the policies do a nil excess now.
I pay £75 excess, but most of them seem to be between £50 and £100. The Kennel Club are really expensive last time I looked!

Re: Insurance
Reimbursement means to repay or refund any money you have spent.

Re: Insurance
ok so basically you pay for it at the time of service, and then they give it back to you.....am I understanding this correctly?? I know the meaning of the word, but I guess I want to make sure I am understanding the way it works correctly.......hope this makes sense....

Re: Insurance
You got it correct. They reimburse covered expenses after you have paid the vet. Pretty much a fact vets don't want to be like people docs and wait four months to get paid for their services.

That's it in a nutshell, although a lot of vets will be prepared to do a direct claim as long as it's over a certain amount & you pay the excess first. Mine will do a direct claim for anything over £200 (although they did one for me for £150 - but then I'm one of their best customers! ), they just charge an admin fee of £20 to do it. Fair enough, as they have to wait for their money & still do all the paperwork.

I looked at that one, but decided the cover wasn't high enough for me. Mine's £7500 per condition for life.
