Linux?
i'm thinking of using linux as a dual boot os, and was wondering if anyone here had any experience of using it?. the main reason i'm tempted is it's free, it seems to have more people working to improve it than micro snot and it seems to have very little system requirements. let me know your thoughts?

Re: Linux?
If you like programming, you will like Linux. I tried it for a while but I am more of a user than programmer. Lots of the UI other than windows started there and are really just custom overlays (iOS, Apple OS and many of the tablet, phone OS I believe).

Re: Linux?
Yeah, I've heard it's great for programming. I am a Mac user, have been for a very long time. I know of a lot of people that use it and think it's better than Windows. I also know of people that use bootcamp on Macs and partition the HDD.

Re: Linux?
This reply is from my hubby:
Dual booting linux is a good idea, and Linux is a very fast Operating system - far faster than Windows.
I use a version of Ubuntu, which is one of the more popular. Be sure to look at the Ubuntu website for details on dual-booting, which involves installing Linux AND making an alteration to windows (if you use Win 7)
- there are small applications to do all this for you, just take your time.
I'm no Linux expert, but use it for Blender - a 3D application used to create and animate stuff.
Hope this helps a little

Re: Linux?
I done it all the wrong way...
I started with windows, all GUI, no programming required!
I will never have a computer with windows installed alone, Linux has saved my butt before when windows has had problems.
I currently have both as well as hackintosh, have to admit I use windows more than the others due to some work applications refusing to run via wine on Linux or osx.
I'm desperately wanting to get into osx more myself to force myself gradually into doing more using terminal as opposed to button clicking and learning nothing.
Linux is so so fast, makes me wonder why windows really has all that junk running..?
good luck with it, and good move

Re: Linux?
Good sites, I never fully got in to the Linux route until I got a MBP, only did the live CD's, but I will be having a good look around them.
