That sounds just like a bit of "it's mine and you're not getting it and nothing to be worried about. You should always supervise them and as lots of other people on here will tell you , they mostly do play very rough and a few growls. As long as it doesn't get nasty you shoulld let them decide who is tougher, but normally the bitch will always be the dominant one, just like in real life Laughing what's \tyla like if you take the toy or chew off her , do you get a growl ??

Oh and welcome from me and Tilly Big Grin

Hi

Welcome.
I have 3 staffies all diferent ages and occasionally we get the sniping over toys etc but that is all it is- 'I want yours'.
Providing there is no snarling or growling they should be fine as you have said they are fine when there are no toys about.

Try taking them for a half hour walk before the other dog steps foot into the house. This will allow them to get the first excited moments of being together out their system.
You will also find that with them being similar ages they are going through hormone changes at the same time which could make the rivalary worse at certain times.

If you need any more advice or help please shout

Claire n the trio

All my bitches came into their first seasons around the 7 month mark

My last bitch, Gizzi, was very noticeable that she was coming in to season as she swelled up and her behind went slightly balder than normal plus she began paying more attention to her self there. She was also very clean with it we never saw any blood apart from a tiny spot on the kitchen floor when she sat down.

8 weeks after her season she was neutered.

My male dog was never sexually interested in females at all. I had him neutered at 2 years old.

I know the rescue I work within say to neuter male dogs at 12 months old as they say it is the perfect time as they have had the testosterone to help them develop and dont need them after that.

I know some vets and other professionals argue over the age of suitability for castration so if this is what your planning for your boy, discuss it with your vet first as they may have a different opinion.

She could come into heat any time from 5 months to 18 months, but the usual time is anywhere from 6 months old, and then roughly every 6 months, although she won't be physically mature until about 2 years. Males become sexually mature at around 5 or 6 months so if she comes into season, he will be interested! Mentally & phisically a stafford male won't be fully mature until he's at least 18 months, probably nearer 2 years old.

Welcome! Sounds like you have already got some great advice. My guess is that all will be well if you are patient, watchful and keep them apart when the gal is in season.
