Im considering a Staffy as an addition to my my family ( just me and hubby). I would like 2 so they can keep each other company etc. but have read that its just asking for trouble because of jealously. Can anyone advise me if its possible to have 2 Staff pups in the same house with out any 'major' problems ie. aggression, jealousy etc. any info would be appreciated as i'm new to the breed! Thanks

I would really just get one and then maybe get another when the first is a little. Housetraining and obedience training is hard enough with one let alone two. And if you get two, they'll prob bond with each other rather than you and please dont even consider getting two from the same litter, siblings rarely get on. If you do decide on two, get them from different litters and get one of each sex rather than two of the same. Good luck Smile

Thanks for the advice! I have been told by a few people to get them from the same litter! but these people are work colleagues and know very little about Staffs. I'm trying to get my husband to agree with me on this, to just concentrate on 1 pup and then introduce another at a later stage! I apprecite you quick respons Shontelle!! thank you!

Your welcome, thats what we're here for. Welcome to the forum and just ask if there's any advice you need. Just for the record, same litter pups is a recipe for disaster. Most people here will tell you the same. And having two dogs of the same sex can cause problems too. You'll do best by getting one and training it fully, then maybe introduce it to another of the opposite sex and see how they get on before committing. Let us know how you get on.

I would never have two pups at the same time, let alone from the same litter.

I wouldn't reccomend it unless you have been in the breed for many, many, mnay years and really know wat you are doin.

Go for the one pup for now, concentrate on making that one obedient, well trained, well mannoreda nd then when he/she is older you can get a 2nd.

Cos let's face it once you've had one stafford, you'll want another...and another! lol

Thanks *nikki*. I'm gonna try and find a reputable breeder now. and just stick with the one! I get a little over excited at the thought of having some Staff companions and i think thats why i wanted two. but like you said, with 1 pup i can train/socialise etc and concentrate all my efforts on him.

I agree nikki you will want another and another. But initially one is hard enough Milly takes up all our time on her own just yet.

Oh, yes. One is enough! There are lots of proplr who have more than 1 staff, but it really isn't easy.

I wouldn't have two of the same sex, you'll get rivalry & possibly fights. I also wouldn't have two from the same litter, lots of problems. Again, there are some who have done it successfully, but they usually have been in the breed for a while & know their way around.

If you do get two, either get them at the same time (which means double the work with training & house training), and get one of each sex, or wait until your first is more mature, say about 18 months - 2 years, so that he or she will be mature enough to put up with a young pup, but young enough to want to play.

Never leave them together, unattended, and preferably crate them in seperate crates overnight & when you go out without them.
