Good evening one and all!
Great site!
I'm looking for genuine, unbiased advice from breed owners please.
I am a 36 year old male, who works from home. At present I have a wonderful West Highland White Terrier and she is 11 years old.
I am exploring the possibility of finding my Westie a companion in her autumn years and also preparing myself for when my Westie is no longer with us.
I love everything about the Staffy breed and have read post after post from breeders, owners etc.
With careful love, discipline, training and exercise, would a Westie and Staffy get on?
I am not one to take on the priviledge of a puppy lightly and am greatly committed in all that I do.
However, I cannot and will not bring a wonderful Staffy pup into an environment that 1) she would not enjoy, 2) that would upset my dearly loved Westie.
I welcome your advice please.
Sincere regards
Mark

Re: New Member!!
Hi and welcome from us and Suki. Working at home would be a big advantage and they certainly could get along great. There might be a little bit of an energy level difference but that isn't a huge issue.

Re: New Member!!
every other dog at my local park is a westie..
They get on great, and play really well together!
you will have the same issue of the pup wanting to play when the older dog doesnt regardless of breed, even our poodle "tolerates" Bode and her energy lol

Welcome to the forum!
with the correct training a staffy would accept an get on well with any breed, i have seen staffys with so many mixes out and about and they adore each other from westies, to chihuahua's and large breeds etc!
My two love meeting the westie who lives on the end of our grove to us, a lovely older man owns him and puts him on his moto scooter when he goes out and he'll jump of have a lil meeting with my two then hop back on

Hello
The westie would come first do you think
1 she would enjoy a companion
2 what age could she cope with a puppy or older dog
3 you have the perfect home enviroment for a rescue or a puppy

Welcome from Murphy, Madge and me. Agree with everything others have said. Wondered if you might consider a boy this time just something I've always done - had one of each but your choice of course.

Re: New Member!!
Hi and welcome..
Does your Westie get on well with other dogs??
We originally only had one staffy Jethro and he means the absolute world to us..we have no kids..Jethro is everything to us. When he got to almost 12 we bought home Winston as a 6 week old pup. We know that when Jethro pegs out..apart from the fact I know I will be shattered, we wanted to have another dog already to love .... They got on well since the first day..they are both desexed which I reckon helps...and though it is hard work as they have different feeding requirements etc.. it has worked out well for us. Jethro is now 12 and a half and going strong, Winston is 10 months. It helps too that Winston is a dear little boy, and he has picked up on alot of Jethro's good habits..and we love him to bits already.
Good luck if you get another doggie!

Re: New Member!!
oops forgot to add though that because of the age difference I never leave the 2 boys alone together if we are going out.... they play rough and would hate Jethro to get accidentally hurt.
