Walking Taz today on the lead, guy had his Staffy off his lead he went for Taz really viciously but i got in his way not the sad part. The other staff was only a pup no more than 6 months definatly, that poor pup must be going through mental torture being so unstable, im not saying it was the guy i seen him with but someone must of made him like that, who would do that to a pup?

Some people like a staff to be dog agressive. They think it isn't a proper staff if it doesn't snap & snarl at everything on 4 legs! Poor dog, it'll never know the pleasure of playing with another dog, because it'll never be trustworthy. Very sad.

iv come across a couple of staffy pups younger than memphis that have went to attack him and he just stands there then whacks them on the head with his paw to put them in there place, he dont get phazzed at all, but you allso get the owners laughing about it thinking it funny and thats what the pups do and they grow out of it, they even ask when he stopped being like that.
and i just inform them that he never been like that becouse iv put the time into socialising him, and if they dont get there dogs sorted quickly there going to be infor trouble.

The only trouble I have with Billy is when he see's another dog or cat he will run off towards them to play. He has never growled or barked at any one or any animal. He is just very very playfull. He will even run up to people in the park to say hello and theres nothing I can do because he doesnt listen to me. Has anyone got any tips how to help and make him listen and come back to me?

Also another thing is when I throw a ball or stick he doesnt bring it too me he likes me to chase him and he will run around thinking I want the stick. The only way I can get him to me is by shouting for him to come and showing him the lead. I honestly thing he would run off with another dog not relising he's left me behind.

i dont agree that if you have well socialized your dog automatically means that it wont be dog aggressive , example shady was and to an extent is still well socialized , but he seems to suffer from wee man syndrome , i'd say 7 times out of 10 if he's on the lead and a bigger dogs approaching his hackles will do up and he'll either bark or growl at it and posture up , yet if he's off the lead playing with a ball or running about and dogs approach he has a sniff and carry's on doing his thing , dakota well socialized aswell will play with anything nothing bothers her or seems to give her the hump , so to automatically assume because someone's dog has a go that its not being looked after trained or scocialized is very judgemental imho

treat training might help....
you will prob have to repeate this a few times till it works but every time he coms back give him a treat and go from their..
thats how i done my 2 when they were younger...

yea either treat or toy training which ever motivats them more. I spent months with ty on a training lead trying to train him on recall with treats but still as soon as another dog or person appeared he would be off and there would be no getting him back. It wasnt till we happened to take a squeaky toy out with us one day that we realised just how toy motivated he was. 3 dogs ran up to him all off lead sa was ty and he was so fixated on the toy he literally didnt bat an eye lid when normally he would be jumping all over them and playing. Now all it takes is a squeak from a toy and his recall is instant and im not exagerating, i dont mean to bang on but im just so happy lol its like magic! If he is motivated with food though like my kaos then use high value treats like hot dogs cut up small or cheese x

No, not all staffords like other dogs, even if they've been socialised well as pups. It's just in their nature, I'm afraid & as long as you know your dog, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

i will agree to an extent but if a pups doing that and the owner doing nothing about it then there never going to improve you got to atleast try and teach your pup right and wrong.
and niff are you sure its not just a scotish thing with shady and he trying to give a glasgow kiss to the other dogs lol

Before Al was socialable with any dog but recently i have noticed he has started getting more intense with dogs and not waging his tail. Although he has never growled i am just afraid whether he would or not go for another dog.

I think you just have to know your dog. As long as he's good with people, you can always tell others to keep their dogs away from him, after all! Bandit never liked other dogs and yet he was brought up with my sister-in-law's snappy border collie & there was never a problem between them. He'd be tolerant of bitches but wouldn't have a dog come near him.

Same here. Dempsey's not exactly dog agressive, he's more dog dominant, so although he'll happily play with a submissive dog or botch, he won't put up with even theslightest show of dominance/agression. Most people round here know me & Dempsey (he's the only EBT around here) and they're happy to keep their dogs away!

I was walking my dog on the lead a few weeks back. Another staffy off the lead with its owner ran out of a ginnel and tried to attack mine. I got in the way and it eventually stopped and ran back to its owner. As the dog ran away it got ran over by a car :/ The staffy was ok though. Luckily the car saw it coming and slowed down. I was speaking to the owner after. He was telling me the staff was 4 years old. I'm not sure why but my dog doesnt have any reaction to other dogs at all. Like, he will just walk past them without stopping, barking or interacting in any way. Any ideas why?
