The Staffy Spirit
Just got my copy of Dogs Today magazine which has an article in about replacing the British Bull Dog as our national mascot.
Patrick Burns suggests that it is replaced with of course the Staffy. Excellent idea I thought.
An interesting piece about the breeding problems/issues with the British Bull Dog,

Re: The Staffy Spirit
Love both breeds but Staffys are more consistant in temperment and health so that is a great idea!

Re: The Staffy Spirit
I'm going to go the other way - I think it would be a huge mistake.
The staff is way too popular now, what would happen if it replaced the Bull Dog as the English Emblem?
I don't think it bears thinking about!

Maybe it could gain it a whole lot more respect!
The problems with bull dogs and breeding is also a concern.

What Show breeders have done to the Bulldog is a disgrace.

Got to agree with Caryll on this one but maybe for different reasons. England has heritage (sorry Scotland and Wales but you may want to take part for economic reasons )
We have the British Bulldog, the English Rose, St George, Winston Churchill (who bears close relationships with the British Bulldog) and nobody should ever be able to decide that we change these things, this is how we grew up.
I do however feel proud that I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier an live in Staffordshire (I loved my little girl so much I emigrated) so lets push the county. One day we will live in a country that doesn't discriminate against our breed , but unfortunately that will probably mean that another one has took the walk of shame
