Are you talking KC registered? Has he papers as that is the only way he can be a registered stud (not rego! )

You can only register him with the Kennel Club if both his parents were also registered. The breeder would have to sign the transfer forms & you would have to send them to the kennel club with your payment.
I'm not being funny, but are you sure that your dog is good enough to be used at stud? That isn't a criticism, but we all think our own dog is the best thing since sliced bread!

Re: how to rego ny dog
No offense, but pedigree is not the only requirement. Mine actually was a stud, but it was more than just the fact that his dad, granddad and great granddad were stud (kinda obvious if he was a pedigree dog anyhow). He has to be a prime specimen of the breed including conformation, temperament and health (some of which require testing as they are not visible issues). Perhaps you are correct and perhaps not. I have no idea, but if he is registers-able, why wasn't he sold that way to you? Seems kinda questionable in my honest oppinion. That's why we all are asking and sound sceptable. Just is not the usual way at all.

Re: how to rego ny dog
I have always been under the impression that the breeder registers the pups. At least that is how it is here. The breeder then transfered ownership with the KC to me.

His parentage is not a guarantee of being good enough to be a stud dog! I have had three dogs whose parents (and several other ancestors) have been champions - only one of them was good enough to breed from (in my opinion) and she had one litter of pups. My last staff, Bandit, had two champion parents & several other champions in his background & my current BT has a champion father & his grand father & great grand father were top stud dogs - neither were good enough to breed from!
As a matter of interest, whereabouts are you? In the UK, the breeder has to register the litter & then transfer the registration to the buyer. If the litter was not registered you'd have all sorts of trouble trying to register an individual pup.
