Republican usually. I'm pretty darn conservative.

Nobody. However, most any of the top contenders would be better than Obama. Honestly, there hasn't been a candidate that I supported as much as a canidate I didn't want more than the other. My take is that they are all pretty much liars and out for themselves first. My feeling is that it will come down to Romney and Gingrich but I acutally prefer Ron Paul (but he does have some extreme veiws that I don't necessarily agree with). No real conservative can win in this country. Honestly would have to be in the middle.

All I know about the parties is one is represented by donkey and the other by an elephant though heaven knows there are no elephants in the US. (please correct me if I got it wrong) . Please explain the difference between a democrat and a republican.

BTW I am nuts about your new avatar. I just know the two boys are going to be best buddies, they look so cool together.

Thanks on the pic! I am very happy.

You are correct about the silly animals. Kinda dumb in my opinion anyhow. Basically the differences are that the democratic party believes in big government and government run everything. The republicans believe in limited government and allowing people, states and local governments decide what is best for themselves. Both parties are broken in my opinion. The democrats have been overrun by the most extreme liberals who would like to turn this country into Greece or worse a communist country where there is centralized control over every aspect of life, community, work and prosperity which comes at the price of freedom. The republicans have to get a platform together. They used to stand for the constitution and upholding the rights of all people, but now they have simply become anti-democrats. In other words, we are like the UK with a broken two party system. Theoretically there are other options, but they get so few votes it really doesn't matter. Additionally, candidates on both sides can be bought by their voting constituency.

Theoretically a State could leave, and Texas has talked about it for ages. However, it probably would lead to some fighting etc (i.e. our civil war was about states leaving the union over the slavery issue). Wouldn't be as easy as scotland as our systems are so interwoven that more than likely the US wouldn't allow it.

i seriously doubt it. Our states are much to integrated for a breakup to occur. It would be pretty much starting from scratch.

Our top pays about 50% effective income tax. It gets kinda crazy. Gotta pay for all those social plans somehow.

The US tax code is tiered. Meaning that the more income you make the more taxes you pay. The feeling is that the higher wage earners should fund the social programs to assist those that earn less.

Exactly. Tyranny of the masses. Eh, I'm not against taxes, just the progressive one we have here.
