anyone know please?
Hi
I saw a video on youtube a week or so ago where a woman was teaching a dog to leave food.. ie had treat in her palm let the dog sniff and everytime he went to eat them she closed her hand till he wasnt bothered then she treated and repeated..does anyone know where this is or who the lady is. i have tired to find it on youtube but cant. im trying to look for mental stimulation for river while also trying to teach her something. like not eating food like smarties that my daughter left lying around thank you or any other suggestion would also be super dooper for mental stimultion games..she cant quite grasp the seek and find one.. bless her..

We have Suki sit and wait every time before eating. We wait for her to salivate a bit before allowing her to eat. She is very food motivated and we do this to be able to hold her attention even if she is hungry

Re: anyone know please?
You're welcome and have fun! That game is the most useful thing I've taught my puppy as once they understand that Good Things will come to you when you Behave you can use it for almost anything.flame wrote:ooooo thats the one thank you so very much guess what river and me shall be doing in 10 minutes ).
Wanna meet the guests? Well - they only come towards you when you're sitting down. It's yer choice.
Wanna go outside? Well, the door only opens when you're sitting/standing politely. It's yer choice.
Wanna come inside from the rain? Well - the door only opens once you've peed. It's yer choice.
Wanna go play in the field? Well, the leash only comes off once you sit nicely. It's yer choice.
Wanna have your dinner? Well, the bowl only arrives on the floor once you're sitting nicely. It's yer choice.
Wanna go smell the interesting stuff over there? Well - we only move forwards when you're not pulling on your leash. It's yer choice.
... and so on..

Re: anyone know please?
it works!! done it with river yesterday and she cottoned on really quick.. i am going to do it again today and everyday for about a week then step up to the walking on the lead outside on..i am also trying to find ones on leave it and drop aswell.. and still trying the seek one... River is such a clever sausage im sure she will cotton on quick... tis strange she will take random food that left about (like smarties...etc) but has trouble seeking her treats..thank you again we had great fun.

Re: anyone know please?
Well done! Keep up the good work
Something like this could quite easily be combined with it's yer choice training:
(Ideally the it's yer choice training makes a leave it command unnecessary as anything they find and want automatically will be left alone with sufficient IYC training. I'm sure it takes some serious focus to get to that point, though, as you'd have to make sure the dog doesn't self reward with stuff lying around the house or outside.)
I came across this very good one about dropping! I really like his approach!flame wrote:i am also trying to find ones on leave it and drop aswell..

I tried it with Mambo today and he got it after literally 1 minute! after 5 minutes I could leave the treat by his foot while standing up! I'm so proud of him, especially considering his digestion problem, meaning he's always unnaturally hungry and goes for any food he can reach!
I will continue the training, definitely!
