a lot of hazelnuts :(
just came back home, we were out for not more than an hour- Mambo managed to get the bowl with walnuts from the table and he ate them - this must be about 400grams, it was quite a big bowl.
He seems quite OK, no vomiting etc but I'm not sure he probably only just ate them I think I will ring the vet emergency number in a minute...
I read walnuts are 'mostly safe' but he ate a lot of them
I'm worried

Re: a lot of hazelnuts :(
just called vet emergency they said walnuts are not toxic so he should be fine but he may have upset stomach...
why can't we have at least a few days without him eating something that's bad for him

If he is ok I guess there isn't much you can do, except to remember not to leave things within Mambo's reach!! Xx

Re: a lot of hazelnuts :(
ehhhh theoretically he shouldn't reach the nuts from the table, but apparently nothing's impossible for him
we will definitely double-check if everything's hidden from him next time we leave house...

Re: a lot of hazelnuts :(
ah, I meant hazelnuts not walnuts.... ! was a bit too nervous writing the topic ( but both are non toxic)
Re: a lot of hazelnuts :(
Just keep a keen eye on him, they are little buggers for grabbing stuff. I made the mistake of leaving one of the bins out the garden on the floor earlier. The little scrote managed to rip it open and sniff out a big tennis ball sized piece of pork ! Took me long enough to yank it out of his mouth .. I don't want him eating pork after the story I had about my brothers dog and pork .. ewww !

Re: a lot of hazelnuts :(
Mambo saw us today eating the nuts and he really wanted to have some but we didn't let him. it almost looks like he 'had a plan' to get to them as soon as he will have the opportunity...
he's asleep on the sofa next to me just now, snoring. hope he will be OK.
only few days ago I was writing here about him eating a half full box of dry porridge. - he just can't get enough of the bad stuff recently!

Glad to hear he will be okay. You can never underestimate them. If they really want something they are quite creative

When Monty goes for a poo I always go and check it out .. see what's in it (not touching it, just looking !) because he still has bloody stools ... I found sweet corn in his poo yesterday, racked my brains out wondering where he got the sweetcorn from. He's been at the bloody bird food

Hope Mambo's ok ... did he crack the shells, or eat them whole ?
Max had a few bloody poo's a while back which really worried us , but it turned out to be him eating the very sharp serated edged leaves from a large pampass grass in the middle of our lawn (if you've ever trimmed one you'll know it cuts ya to peice's!!) ... needless to say, we no longer have it, I dug it up as he just couldnt resist it for some reason

I wish I could say it was the plants in our garden too, my mum thought it was down to one of the plants we have, but he hasn't touched any of them. He still has bloody stools now and again, the vets gave him some an anti inflamatory (sp?) injection and some anti biotics, but to be honest, that didn't get rid of it ... although his stools are alot less bloodier than what they used to be !

Tom, next time he eats something he shouldn't get some of this....

Beat a raw egg into a cup full of milk & then add 2 or 3 teaspoons of the powder & mix it in quickly. Put it straight down (immediately!) & let him eat it. Inside him, it will form a sort of gel which is soft enough to pass through his gut, but is dense enough to push everything else through with it!

Max picked up a discarded cigarette lighter on our walk last week, it looked so comical hanging out of the side of his mouth ... I was still grinning as I took it off him. I wish I'd had a camera....

Re: a lot of hazelnuts :(
I hope Mambo is ok.
Millie isn't a staff but she has perfected her planning. She will spot something she wants and completely ignore it, you won't even catch her so much as look in it's direction. She worked out that if she does this we are more likely to forget to move it out of her way. She also taught me that unless something is high up in a cupboard she will find a way to get it.

Re: a lot of hazelnuts :(
the nuts had no shells, luckily!
so, as expected, Mambo had to 'go to toilet' so many times today I actually lost count.
I woke up at 4:30am today to see if he's fine and I stayed with him, I was just about to fall asleep on the sofa when he stood up and run to the door! so we went for a nice super early morning walk in pyjamas that was about 5am... we repeated the routine at least 5 times today - it seems like he got it all out of his stomach now, but I'm telling you he had NEVER pooped as much as he did today... crazy day!
he's just fine now, had his normal (!) supper and is now asleep on the sofa...
we learnet our lesson, no more food ANYWHERE around when we're not home.
