We live in Sagamihara Prefecture about an 70 minute train ride or so from downtown Tokyo.

Just my Fiancé is going to Kyoto in Feb. Was wondering if you had any hints and tips. He's staying in hostels. Wants to know what to see what to do.

Hi!! We say that Kyoto is one of the coldest places on the main island of Japan in winter, so make sure that your fiance brings a thick coat to keep him warm. I personally love Kyoto very much and that is my favorite place in Japan. There are so many pretty places in Kyoto. I would recommend him to visit the Sagano area and the Gion area. You can see historical and traditional scenery in Sagano. In Gion, it has become a tourist site but still you can see "old Japan" and also if lucky, you will find "Maiko" girls walking in the area dressed in expensive kimonos and obi.
