Just one of those things ... :(
I was on gumtree earlier looking for doggy bits that might be for sale....someone had posted an add which made me quite sad to read it. it reads...(copy n pasted it so its exactly as advertised)
"hello i have 1 year old staff for slae she lovly dog she just very excatble and i dont have the time for her anymore im selling for 100 and she comes with lead bowls food toys she eats pedgreee i want to her go to a good home she good children other pets and she dont bark anymore info u need email me"
"she lovly dog she just very excatble and i dont have time for her anymore"
This made me particularly sad....and angry tbh
also the "and she don't bark anymore" bit ....wtf?
Awful advert, im not sure this pup will go to a good home! she's gorgeous to have a look
http://www.gumtree.com/p/pets/a-staff-for-sale/93271611
poor thing...just makes me sad and angry when people do things like not research into breeds and training...
There was another add I saw that was for a 9mnth old beagle cross...the ad read
http://www.gumtree.com/p/pets/9-month-old-beagle-cross-for-sale/93376099
"Lovely, lively fun bitch. Was sold to us on the understanding that she was fully toilet and lead trained but needs a bit more help with that. Very good with kids and very loving just we don't have the knowledge to train her properly."
Well get the knowledge...you should of had some before you got her! What is wrong with people...I know we all need guidance with our dogs even with all the research and thats just because each pup is different! urgh
anyhooo rant over! sorry just had to vent

Re: Just one of those things ... :(
Looking at dog adverts on gumtree can be so sad. Tonnes of dogs around the 12 week mark (obviously gotten a pup at 8 weeks, given it a month and decided to get rid) and plenty at around 4-5 months old as well (getting too big to be 'cute', and too strong to control).
To be honest, when Violet was at those ages, I was ready to dropkick her out the top floor window, but it never came into my head to pass her on to someone else. I find it stressful sometimes, and I'm only at uni &working part-time, so I can completely understand that someone who has a full-time job and kids can find it too much to have a dog in the mix as well, but I don't really understand why you'd get a puppy in that situation. I had all summer off to train Violet, and she is still a nutter, so I have no idea how people who are working full-time can manage to bring puppy into their homes! Must be exhausting.

Re: Just one of those things ... :(
Why they don't do there research I have no idea...if they have enough internet to look on gumtree they have enough to join forums like this and google to do some research to. Gets on my nerves! I've actually heard of people getting pups and say "well if he gets to much to handle we could sell him or bring him to a dogs home" what?! crazy!
I've gone to the library and got books out on training terriers and on behaviours etc... and was online researching for ages before I got my first dog! So when it came to training I was ready for everything! She was a JRT I had also looked into staffies at the time as some of the techniques were similar and my partner at the time had just got a 10month old staff bitch! He had no idea what he was doing....the story is actually quite sad so i don't know if any1 wants to hear it lol but let's just say I've seen first hand BAD owner skills and how without thinking they ruin a dogs life

Re: Just one of those things ... :(
Frustrating
Sometimes I look at Stella and at Ben (my friend's collie) and I wonder how can anyone mistreat dogs - they only want to love us... I appreciate that it is not always easy and that people's situation can change during the dog's life but there is no excuse for dumping them somewhere or not to give them the best... So sad................

And that is all most of us can do. Just ensure that our dogs have a good life in a forever home.
I feel bad for all the many, many dogs that don't have it, and if I could, I would help each and everyone. Unfortunately, that's just not possible.

Call me wrong but should Gumtree change their policy and not sell any animals on their site at all. Or would this only move the issue to somewhere else. It's so distressing for all involved.

Re: Just one of those things ... :(
There are other sites just as bad...I think gumtree shouldn't sell animals its abit like an animal ebay...but theres always facebook and the other sites so the problem would still continue....but i think the more sites that aren't allowed to sell animals like this the better....

Re: Just one of those things ... :(
My Kelpie x is a rescue. Her owners, got her as a puppy, only lasted 1 week, before they dumped her at the rescue centre!!!
They says that she is not socialised with cats and she bite!! At 8 weeks old, what do they expect!!!

UPDATE:
I posted this also in my local dog home group on facebook and A lady there posted this
"This person has posted this poor dog (Staff) on every sale site on Facebook. She lives in Houghton I think, and so many people have tried to get her to contact Appledown. But she wants £100. Someone said they know her and she can barely look after herself. The dog is apparently too thin and was told the RSPCA have been informed.
Someone offered her £60 after Christmas, but she wouldnt take it.
I wish someone could do something. It seems no one can."
wtf?! it gets worse...heart breaking :'(

I try not to look at gumtree , i'm a sucker for taking ones that nobody wants.Hence the ten cats ,three dogs, six parrots and Odo the devil rabbit. There is a couple here who take pets from gumtree and then sell them on.

Re: Just one of those things ... :(
Dunstable Bargains is a group on facebook...Dunstable is a small town right next to Luton....she lives in this area apparently...people advertise there goods for sale on there...shocking the admin allowed a dog ad on there.....apparently she's advertised all over facebook in various groups etc...people have told her to send the dog to Appledown...(our local dog rescue) she lied and said she's been in contact with them...but she just wants money.....she just doesn't care really ...
