It's a fact that any of our dogs (mine included) could be deemed pit bull type. That's why, if you have a registered dog you must always keep the registration papers handy. If you are still in contact with the breeder (or rescue organisation) then they could help to identify your dog's prentage. If you have a cross breed or an unregistered dog, you've got to hope that it looks like a good stafford, otherwise..................

Re: DDA Pitbull type definition (scary!)
I have papers for Dempsey, plus many, many photos from when he was a pup till now, plus the breeders would stand up for me & several other breeders I've got to know over the last couple of years. But I've still been stopped by the police several times & asked if he's a pit bull! And he doesn't even look like one!

well i actually no personally of a staffy cross mastiff that was seized under the "pit type" but to be fair it was a very under socialised dog with lots of different aggresion issues but the point being it was 100% not a pitbull i knew the dog since a pup and the owners!

some people will be unlucky but very few it's impossible to enforce any type of ban, not just dogs knifes, guns or anything else, i think if you get your dog seized someone reported you to the police.

the point being any staffy cross can be classed as a pit dont help as pit bull is not a breed but as steve says the police do not have the money to enforce a ban and if they did use precious money on it there would be an outcry as it would turn into a farce

It still amazes me that this law exists in this way. How can our government think it's acceptable to judge whether something is guilty or not based on appearance.
I could be savaged by a poodle but not licked to death by a dog that may resemble a "pitbull" type.

Re: DDA Pitbull type definition (scary!)
I have always been scared of this. Today, a Welsh Terrier owner asked me if Buster was an American Pitbull, 5 minutes later an old man waited for me to pass him and asked me what breed he is as he had never seen a dog like him before.
The biggest problem is that people can make trouble for you if they are scumbags, and report your dog out of pure nastiness. Then you can end up with a problem if the police who come to see your dog are not dog-wise.
