Charlie has calmed down lots but is being a bit weird
Hey all.
So the good news is, Charlie has calmed down loads in the last couple of weeks. He's not chewing half as much as before, he is obedient 100% of the time and his recall is finally 100% too. I think he is maturing now and settling down in general and is just a perfectly behaved, loving, lovable dog.
He is acting a little strangely though, for the last week at least, he is whining at me constantly if I'm not touching him or talking to him. He's always been affectionate but not what you'd call 'clingy'. He's always followed me around but now I literally cannot move without him being right there and he will sit at my feet, staring at me and whining until I give him some attention. He's not hurt in any way, and is very happy when I have given him the attention he wants, but starts again if I stop. This has only been happening for the last week or 2 and seemed to coincide with him calming down a bit with the chewing and stuff. Any ideas?

Has anything frightened him lately? Was he bothered by the fireworks?
The reason I ask is because there are several 'fear stages' in a young dog's life, and one of them can be around the 12-14 month age.
I take it he's healthy & eating well?

Just a chapter I guess, he'll get over it. Make out as nothing is different and he'll settle.
He is just maturing. Xx

try to ignore the whining behaviour you are feeding the behaviour you dont like by giving in and giving him the attention he wants. make a rule that you get attention when i want to give you it. i am not saying ignore him all the time but if you dont like a behaviour dont give in to it correct it. when he is being good then lots of fuss and praise is due and he will get the message that whiny behaviour is not acceptable and will only be ignored but nice behaviour as you want it will get him plenty reward in the end

He wasn't at all bothered by the fireworks and is healthy and eating well, he's 14 months old almost but has shown absolutely no fear of anything except plastic bags and the vacuum cleaner I know I should ignore him, but he sits right next to me and puts his head on my knee and gives me 'those' eyes! It makes me feel bad if I ignore him cos I know he only wants some love. I guess I'll just have to try and ignore those gorgeous puppy eyes and lonely little whine Thanks for your input ladies

we have all fallen for those eyes cos lets face it they look so damn cute but we have to be tough at times and not cave in like the soppy people we are. it will sink infaster than you think. when he puts his head on your knee push it off and dont look at THOSE EYES.
