Advice on social behaviour please!
Hi, Roxie is 17 weeks now and is fantastic.
She is wonderful with the kids and us and is good with other dogs when she's out, but because she wants to play the whole time she always jumps up at other dogs and I can see the other owners getting a little edgey.
She never bites or nips the other dogs just keeps jumping at them, i'm also affriad that if she does this to the wrong dog she herself maybe bitten.
Infact the only time its not a problem is when it is another Staffie: (A) because the owner understands and says 'thats just what ours was like' and (B) The other staffie wants to play just as much as Roxie.
I think we are doing a pretty good job at training her, she already sits and stays even when her fav treat is put in front of her and she comes when she is called (90% of the time). Any tips would be great.
Cheers
Chris.

Re: Advice on social behaviour please!
dogs that are used to the social interaction stop jumping up because the other older dogs tell them off. if your dog jumps up at another and the other dogs moans and maybe slaps with a paw it is not getting angry and ready to bite it is just telling your dog what is acceptable. Lemmy was slapped to the ground by a giant (compared to him) rottie paw on more than one occasion at training and on the park untill he got the message that you dont behave like that. he now plays happil;y with the rottie in question and its brother not to mention some other breed of dogs on the park. there is only the odd few that go that we watch out for because they are the yappy nasty type that ruin play time for every one.

As above, the best way to teach your pup doggy manners is to find a great all round dog to do it for you. A perfect dog would be slightly older 3+ obviously sociable with other dogs but not a submissive dog who wont put yours in its place! If u have to do it yourself then its just a case of as soon as u feel pup is getting to boiserous u must step in and put her back on the lead make her sit and wait till shes calm then let her off again, its time consuming but will work eventually
