Billy is being done today

my poor baby is having the op today, he goes to the vets about 11 and comes out at 4, i am going to be so worried.



he will have a lampshade on his head, so i will take a couple of pics, but what i was going to ask was, a friend of my eldest just had his dog done and instead of the lampshade they had some stuff that you spray on the stitches and it makes them taste awful so they dont lick it, does anyone know what it is called, thanks

Awwwwww......Billy will be fine but it does'nt stop Mummy from worrying.

All will be fine Lynne, I have heard of the spray but not sure what it is called. Moo left her stitches alone when she had her op, maybe Billy will too. All the best today and try not to worry ><

will be thinking about you and Billy today. When Ty was done the 'lampshade was too big and everytime he put his head down it dug in so was very funny. I cut it down and it was fine. A welcome side effect was he could not chew on any of my things!

I think the biggest problem with castration stitches isn't the dog trying to chew them, it's when they drag themselves along the ground! And the collar won't stop that! You could always ask the vet if they have something that'll stop the chewing other than the lampshade!

If it looks like he's leaving them alone, I wouldn't have the collar on. When Dempsey had his stomach operation he got so depressed with the collar on that he wouldn't eat or drink. As soon as we took it off he was back to normal.

Watch out for the collar getting you in the leg, hurts!!!!

Buddy left his stickes alone, so when i was in he had the collar off, untill he got his foot infection, cos thats the area he licks alot anyways.

Aw good luck today, no doubt you will worry all day, but it will be fine and over and done with very quickly.

I agree with Caryll, if he is anything like Tinkerbell who spreads her back legs and commando crawls across the floor then that is something that also needs to be watched. I would also say that he doesn't need the lampshade on all the time, just when you aren't able to watch him. With a bit of luck, he won't bother with them.

Oh and lots of cuddles will make you both feel better when he gets home

Best of luck. The only thing I can think of for the bad taste is Bitter Apple. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be put on the skin though. Suki left her stitches alone so we didn't need the lampshade.

Yes it is very big and we can't cut it as we have to take it back

The good news is it only needs to be in for 2 days as his stitches are internal

glad to hear he's ok. the aneasthetic can make them a bit sick and he will probably sleep a lot but should start perking up a bit tomorrow afternoon. plenty drinks and maybe a light breakfast of scrambled egg or something. bug hugs for him poor babe ><

Aww bless him, hope he isn't too sore.

Harry was 'done' a couple of months ago. He didn't bother with his stitches at all, they were internal. He was sick with bile a few times, presumably from the anaesthetic and from being starved because his empty stomach was full of acid.

I slept with him last night on the sofa with his lampshade on cause he is terrified of it, I didn't get much sleep. Took it off for today he seems better, but have to put it back on tonight
