how the heck does he remember????
just got back from evening walk with woody and after getting into such a muddy mess at the field last night (he had such a good time rolling around in it) and requiring a bath(he didnt enjoy this so much) i decided tonight was going to be a walk the streets night.
now we have a couple off circuits that we do regularly locally and often woody has met other dogs through thier garden gates, both friendly and ones not so friendly. He actually remembers where they all live!!! as we are approaching one of the houses his ears * up he starts prancing along on his tippy toes and then speeds up/slows down depending on whether nice/nasty dog previously and then stops and takes apeek around the gate post to see if they are there or not!!! many a time they arent there so how does he know????? it makes me laugh everytime!!!

Moo does the same thing, clever buggers! I used to walk past this certain house with her everyday and she would know all the houses, then I started doing a different route, over a year later I walked the original route and she still new the houses!

Its funny isn't it?! There is 1 house she knows who have 2 staffs and she will pull my arm out the socket to get there, she knows she always gets a sausage from the couple that live there, but the house is in the next town and we only walk past it every so often Xx

Yep, Sophie is the same. There are a couple of houses that have GSD's that seem to live outside pretty much most of the time. When we approach these houses Sophie knows and peeps down the drives to see if they are there.
All three dogs are quite confrontational when people pass them.
Equally, when she was smaller, there was a garden with a concrete statue of a woman about 5' high. Sophie always wagged her tail as though it was a new friend

I think it has something to do with their excellent sense of direction and smell. There seems to always be a story of a dog that traveled over 1000km to come back home.

I think you're right jstaff, they have such amazing senses our dogs. my cousin had family look after her dog in a town 2 hours drive away from their home, she got out of they yard and was found a couple of days later headed back along the highway to Melbourne.
Russell remembers the neighbourhood dogs too, there's a house that he tries to drag me past really fast where some yappy JRTs always tell him off haha.

Our pup Dora has only been walking about a week and you can tell she remembers the houses where she has met a friendly person in the driveway!
