New to the site, love it!
Hi, im new to the site but already loving it.
We have a beautiful english staffy, Stellar. She is 11 months old right now and i guess i started looking for a forum that would reassure me about things.
She is definately VERY dominant and is constantly pushing the boundaries at the moment but is such a loving, loyal girl and im finding it increasingly isolating as a staffy owner when out and about now that she is passed the the puppy stage. People cross the road and give me dirty looks when we go out for walks, they grab their kids hands and pull them away (despite the fact that i am often walking stellar along with my own 3 young children) I have just recently bought a sporn no pull leash to prevent her pulling on the lead to the point where she is grunting and gasping. You can imagine the looks i get when i walk past people and shes straining, pulling and grunting to try and say hello to people!
We have done all the right things with training and socialisation and she absolutely ADORES to wrestle and play with dogs at the dog park and i keep a close eye on things. But had a bad experience with an old lady who brought her terrified chihuahua into the dog park last week where it lunged and bit stellar on the tongue and drew blood (she was just walking past her to get a drink, didnt even pay the chi any attention) stellar immediately pinned it down with her two front paws at which point the little thing wet itself in fear and the old lady started to scream that she was eating her dog! i called her off immediately and easily and in my opinion stella didnt do anything wrong, but i am now more nervous about going to the dog park. such a shame since she loves the companionship and play so much.
Anyway, this is way too long a rant for a hello. im just enjoying being around staffy lovers and will hopefully gain plenty of advice in the future.

Re: New to the site, love it!
Hi and welcome from me and Rocky. Stella sounds like a fairly normal staffy to me.
I wouldn't stop going to the park just because of one incident, there will be other dogs for her to play with, one of Rocky's best mates is a Doberman and another a spaniel, you just never can tell which friends they will pick. Good luck and be confident when out with her. Big hugs ><

Re: New to the site, love it!
Hi and welcome from us and Suki. We take her to the park everyday. We keep her on leash when around the smaller breeds because of the weight difference since they tend to play a little rough. No reason not to go to the park though.

Hello and welcome to the forum from me and Tinkerbell. I know where you are coming from with people avoiding you especially with pulling the children away. I get the same and I am normally walking with my two young children.
