Rommel is now 8 weeks and 3 days and growing so fast bless him.  The last three nights he has been clean in his crate so that's a great step in the right direction - during the day it's a bit more tricky, I take him out regularly and he goes as good as gold but if I don't watch him like a hawk when he's awake, then there are still a few accidents!  He's settled in so well we are thrilled with him

I love you Mum!

They do grow fast - looking forward to seeing how much he has grown when he has his second jab. I meant to post a picture of his mum and dad too:

Nice reminds me of Molly when she was that age, Duke is quite different to when Molly was little, Duke has big floppy ears for a start and he also has a shorter nose compared to when Molly was younger. :/

Me too, but unfortunatly they dont stay blue though. As they grow up they normally turn brown. Sometimes very rarely a grey colour I have seen.

Molly had blue eyes when she was young but they went brown and Duke had blue eyes too, which are currently changing to a greyish colour at the min but dont know what they will end up though, prob some sort of brownish colour.

Yes, his eye colour is changing by the day, they were much bluer a week or so ago. I assume he'll end up with brown eyes like his mum and dad - and I think I'm right in saying that the breed standard is for dark eyes?

Yup, but unfortunatly blues are seen as poor quality by 99% of the show group anyway. I dont see why though as there are some really good blue staffs around. Unfortunatly as there is a lot of breeding going on where people breed only for the colour there is alot of blues way way out of standard, but then thats the case with any colour though. Look at the amount of breeding going on with all staffs there are loads of non kc breedings going on or kc that are far from whats standards say is right.

Eyes
Dark preferred but may bear some relation to coat colour. Round, of medium size, and set to look straight ahead. Eye rims dark.

So technically a greyish colour would be fine too I assume as blue dogs are grey, but dont know. As they are technically a black/brindle with dilute gene.

But yeah there is only really one big name in the show ring that i know of. Sad

Yes I agree, there is a lot of poor breeding going on and probably within blues most of all as they are the 'in' colour of the moment and as such do seem to attract a higher premium. We did specifically want a blue but waited for months for the right pup to come along and then had to travel over 100 miles to get him. He is beautifully bred on both his sire's and dam's sides - mostly Crashkon and Valglo bloodlines with over 20 champions featuring in his pedigree- infact his grandsire is Valglo Singin' The Blues that you mention.

Trouble is the KC will register any dog as long as it is bred from KC parents regardless of whether it fits within the breed standard. I don't understand why you wouldn't want to breed within the standard otherwise what is the point of the standard in the first place?

its not just blues though thats my point and unfortunatly people automatically judge blues when it comes to shows ect.

Is Rommel been added to this website?

http://www.stamtavler.com/dogarchive/

Would be nice to see his pedigree and see if any relations to Molly or duke as alot of the better Blue staffs seem to have close relations.

Here is molly

Here is duke (Still need to add the missing dogs from pedigree)

I added him to that site the other day! Here it is:

http://www.stamtavler.com/dogarchive/details.php?id=131330&gens=6

It does seem odd that there aren't more blues in the top flight of the show world but, having said that, we did a lot of researching before deciding on a SBT as our ideal dog and, at that point, I didn't even know that blue was a recognised colour! I have never seen another blue and there are loads of Staffies in Weymouth but in what I would call the more 'standard' colours. Perhaps one of the reasons there aren't so many in the show world is that there aren't so many blues full stop?
