What a god-awful (pun intended) school!
My kids went to a catholic primary school & they would never have dreamed of doing anything like that! And catholic schools are usually accused of being too harsh! I showed my boss that article (he's a priest & governor of our local catholic primary) and he was just as horrified a me!

She says the incident has left her son so disturbed that he now refuses to sleep on his own and scrawls pictures of the Devil.
If that's the truth I think they did more than make them eat paper, they must have said some scary stuff, too..
