Trigger Dogs Empty Trigger Dogs

Post by Amelie Mon Jun 16 2014, 17:11

Is there any hope?
What can i do?
I'v known this Alaskan Malamute for around 5+ years.
Very sweet loving dog his owner is a  angry  and a roider. If he can't afford to feed his dog he will also send him up the mountain for some sheep (yes i'm being serious)I only just learnt this. Demon the dog has always been straying alone but he is well tempered Until lately, He has attacked staff, a rotty, and most recent a friends Labrador x
These dogs have all be calm and well behaved and demon as walked up to them had a sniff and been his usual chipper self and just wandered off.
here is the disturbing part these three times his owner has called him over after demon has been well behaved, leaned over him (brushed him in the middle of the field) and said something into demons ear (seen by latest owner who was just behind the two of them)
At this this stage Demon has gone nuts and has ripped into these dogs like a cujo and he wont stop. like latest time he dragged my friends dog around like a puppet and his roider of an owner have stood there and watched while demon has attacked the owner of one of the dogs too, he just tells them to kick him.
This time the only reason he got up and called his dog was because the other owners 4 year old my niece was screaming with her hands over her ears because shade their dog was lifeless but still being dragged around.
Also with my friend was their actually aggressive dog yappy little yorky cross but demon didn't even go for him he went for the one he last sniffed (before going over to his owner)
I take this dog into my house when he is wandering, i dry, i brush him and feed him and he is the only dog my male with accept because when my male has tried to start something demon has basically brushed it off and ignored him so my male never tried it again.
Every dog owner around this area is now arming themselves with sticks to get rid of demon if he approaches them, I don't know what to do, I'm trying to find out if its an actual trigger his owner is doing but looks like it is.
He is such an amazing dog....i don't want him reported, he'll be put down but if he has a trigger.......

I don't quite understand what you're hoping for in a reply, sorry, got a little lost!

So, basically, there's a man in your area who has a dangerous dog, a malamute, called Demon. Demon has viciously attacked other dogs as well as killing and eating livestock. You don't want Demon to be reported because you like the dog, and believe that the owner is whispering a command into his ear, telling him to attack other dogs?

I don't quite know what to say, other than he needs to be reported. If the owner is commanding him to attack, he needs to be out of the owners care and it needs to be reported to the police, but either way Demon isn't safe to be out in public.

On re-reading, if you're saying that you're thinking of keeping him, I would say don't. I always remember a trained dog that a friend worked with a few years back. Even after 3 years of ownership and building that bond, she said the wrong word once and he punctured her kidney with his teeth. Also pinned a visitor down by the throat. Depends how he has trained him, but if you care about your dog I wouldn't be taking him in. He needs to go to a rehab centre, or put to sleep. That's a very large powerful dog that is ripping other large powerful dogs to shreds. You know he is dangerous with other dogs, why risk it?

Echo what Rach has said, definately this person needs to be reported and the dog would be better in a rehab centre. I would no way be considering a dog with issues in whatever manner  Smile

Owner needs to be reported! if it is killing livestock then it can be shot by a farmer anyway for the safety of other dogs and owners it sounds like it needs to be taken from that situation.

Personally knowing the dog may have a trigger I wouldn't have it anywhere near my own I'm not risking my boy getting injured

Sounds like the owner of the dog needs to be reported before someone is seriously injured by it.

May I ask where in the world you are ? UK laws obviously do not mean a thing any where else.

I'm in Wales.
I'm only hearing about this behaviour today..its really shocked me, he is such a sweet heart, he lets himself into my house, he opens the door and if its locked he'll whine, I brush him, feed him and play with him...I am gutted, he's such a sweet boy.
I don't know what else besides a trigger that is causing this behaviour. It doesn't make sense to me.
At first i thought he is ill, tooth ache, ear ache something....but the fact his owner always talks to him before he attacks strikes me at odd.

At the end of the day you have to ask yourself what is fairer on the dog - no dog should be left to wonder. If the dog has this installed in him then you never know what could trigger it and you would never forgive yourself if something happened to your dog or anyone elses.

He needs reporting and if the dog can be worked with great.

Then sadly it is the fairest way to go. I understand that you want to stand in and help but if the dog is a liability/unpredictable to people then it is the only way. Once trained and if you feel with a trigger word it is then you can never predict what can happen.

All I can say is its the owner that should be put down and its a sad society we live in.

You need to report it full stop - if the dog kills another dog how would you forgive yourself? What if it ended up being yours?

Again a behavior installed by * humans.

Agree with Janey!! Why the hell haven't people already reportied this? It's ridiculous. I understand attachments to animals, I really do, but this dog is dangerous and in extremely irresponsible hands.. Trigger words or not. How would you feel if it was your dog being "thrown around like a puppet?" Do the responsible thing.

I agree and I would report the owner and get the dog took off him. He is clearly dangerous (both human and animal). He needs taking to task and banning from having animals. Malamutes are a close relative of the Husky and have a high prey drive, so are very hard to train, and I imagine rehabilitate. Get the authorities involved.

All be reported, he still has the dog though so not sure if anyone has come out to see him yet or not.
Another incident the other day, he attacked another dog after his owner "brushed" him in the middle of the field only this time the other owner punched demon out of the way, he went back to his owner and his owner beat him up, pinned him to the floor kicking and punching him so, if nothing is done, ill call the rspca, once i find out what his address is.

I would strongly suggest that whoever witnessed the attack on this dog by the owner reports it to the police. This guy must be stopped and the dog taken to safety.

I don't know his address pretty sure he doesn't have one, i can't report him with out an address, all this has been said to the warden, recalled today no one has come out but i told them he beat the dog up and the woman sounded more concerned than the guy did that i spoke to the other day, so hoping they see him around but again without an address where do they go.
I'll follow him home if i have to i wont let him get away with this abuse.

Right - people on steroids are not themselves and aren't in control. A friend of mine ended up in prison because of what his steroid use did to his behaviour.

Have you also contacted r s p c a?

Keep reporting every incident even if you don`t have an address. At least then the RSPCA and the dog warden have the information and are aware of what is going on.

The dog needs taking away from its owner for everyone sake and its own poor thing
