itchy bum and masturbation

hi everyone !
it's a bit of a delicate subject but i could talk about any subject for the well-beeing of dexter
for the past couple of days dexter seem to have (only during the evening) a itchy bum or itchy testicules. He turn like if he was chasing his bum and end up scratching his penis and balls, getting aroused and finish by humping his own face ... there is other dogs in my building so i'm wondering if there could be a female in heat around or if it is just a normal behaviour. for now i gave him his pillow and he is now sleeping next to it ( just missing the after sex cigarette )

Never had a boy but could be blocked anal glands? x

I'm not sure but I don't have a boy!

I'm gonna have a look at his anal gland but thatt would not explain the masturbation ...  

I just hope Dexter is your Dog and not your OH. LOL.

Could be Anal Glands. Has he been wormed? If you are itching in a place you cannot scratch and don't know why it must drive you crazy and masturbation might just be trying anything to ease\distract from the itch.

Good points about worms or anal glands! Does he smell fishy at all? That would be a sign of a anal gland problem.

We find that when Bane goes for a poo he gets rather excited and always has to have a little willylicking time afterwards but I don't think he has ever been able to get into a position where he could hump his own face!

i checked is gland and all seem fine, and he had is worm tablet about a month ago... i left him to it and he calm down . i read that it could be an urinary infection ... (but when i check my own symptoms on internet when i feel poorly i always end up with a cancer or other results )

He doesn't have any fleas or mites? Does he suffer from any allergies? This can often manifest itself at the base of the tail as it's a warm dry spot. When Biscuit was on dry food in kennels she always had sore itchy feet/base of tail. I'd imagine the over sexed behaviour is just a chain reaction from the friction, bless him lol!

no fleas or other bugs but a little red rash near his testicules ... (probably due to an over-scratching )

mix of bakers dry food and wet food

I'm going to say that this may be your problem, bakers is the worst of the worst when it comes to dog food, it's basically like us eating mcdonalds everyday. Full of colourings and additives and none of the good stuff, it produces bad, hyperactive behaviour and all sorts of health problems. There have even been campaigns do get it banned! I would get him off it immediately and switch to a hypoallergenic food, I reckon you'll see a difference pretty quickly.

I think all dogs bum surf, and for male dog if they bum surf their wonka will pop out....

but baker is proper bad i cant believe people still feed their dogs supermarket dog food. goto pet at home get some Wainwright or order some fish 4 dogs online

Has he been in any long grass recently ?, he may have received an insect bite or having a reaction to the grass, try giving him an antihistamine and see if this helps, if not pop him along to the vets, something is a miss.

thank you for all that advice. i have checked everything and all seem fine ... he hasn't done it today at all . he is just humping a pillow ( wich is now HIS pillow) a LOT ! I'm wondering if my little boy is just hitting puberty and need to get it out of his system ... his next visit to the vet is gonna be soon anyway so i will have it checked to make sure that it's not an infection . i also changed his diet as advised (I stopped the baker's stuff as soon as you guys told me about it )
I was also wondering what you think about all those cheap brands of dog food like ASDA own brand for example, I have seen them but as I am not sure of the nutrition bit and dexter is still growing up I want to get everything perfect !

Haha! My friend has a shih tzu that has a special teddy for humping, so weird and gross! I'd say I'm lucky to have a girl but she likes to hump people/dogs too   

In regards to food brands, ASDA and other own brands are just as bad as Bakers! Personally, I feed nature diet. For dry have a look into Wainwrights, Fishmongers (white fish and potato), James Wellbeloved, Burns or Arden Grange. All a little pricier than the ones mentioned, but will cost you less in vets bills and stress in the long run!

Haha it might just be a phase...Bane did it for a while! When he was much younger he had his humpy banana teddy but as he got bigger, he set his sights on bigger things like me and the OH's little brother -.- Thankfully it passed in a few weeks of telling him "no"

Many of the foods sold in supermarkets are cheaper for a reason, all you have to do is read the ingredients to see that grains ususally make up the majority of it. We were planning on spending a little more for better quality puppy food to make sure he grew well and was healthy, and then switch over to something cheaper as he got older, but we have since swapped to Raw and will be staying on it

I have to admit that i just moved with dexter to a new place and that my finances are not at the best ( got an interview tommorow and quite confident about it so it should get better soon ).
as much as i want to give him the best i am surviving on pasta and rice until i get my first paycheck. so i always manage to get him dry food and this time i gave a try to aldi's brand . Beeing on benefits is horrible and i don't want that for dexter and I. soon we'll see better days. thanks for all your advice guys !

Hey. Sorry to hear that your financial situation is a bit crap at the moment, recently been in a tough spot myself, had my interview yesterday! For the moment, as long as he's fed that's the main thing! Once you're back on your feet, it would be beneficial to get him onto a better food if you can. Hope your interview goes well

Fingers crossed for your interview! Diet is important, but saying that my parents feed their Staff a mix of the cheaper brands like Wagg as that is all they can afford but he has been fine on it Different dogs do better on different brands.
