Biting Empty Biting

Post by beverley Wed Jan 15 2014, 20:47

Hi eveyone

monty is now about 12 weeks old and he is still biting alot, i know this is normal for a pup to bite but we are getting a little bit worried because for the last week or so he has been running at us biting our legs and feet but he does it really aggressively, and he tries to really sink his teeth in. Is this normal to be doing this.
If so Does anybody have any advice on how to stop him from doing this ?? x

I wear trousers nearly all the time to protect my legs. Lucy was terrible at nipping. Now she has reached 5 months she is a lot quieter.

Look at Monty's tail- I bet it is wagging when he is being naughty.
To him it is great fun playing with Mum.

Good news is this is perfectly normal, bad news is it will continue for a little bit yet  Big Grin  My 13wk old still bites a fair bit, we have been using the words 'uh uh',yelping if it's too hard, walking away & ignoring him for a min and if he doesn't settle down he goes into time out for a few mins until he calms down. Hang in there, it will get better !

"Yep" Puppies will treat everyone the same, and as children are always moving their hands about; there is always a lot to play with. You just have to be very careful around children and as all of us now- Never leave them alone by them selves when a dog is around.

Echo advise given above. We used the yelp and stopping interaction on Tip. She hates being ignored.

It wouldn't be aggresive behaviour from a puppy so young, it all sounds quite normal

I found that Bane only got my ankles when I wore baggy trousers, leggings and tight jeans he wasn't so interested in :lol:They have mighty sharp teeth at that age and think it's great fun to test them out on you ;)As everyone says it's normal Smile

If you have the chance while the little one is around, try and do some training with him teaching him to not jump up at children. First time Bane met my 1.5 year old nephew I swear he thought he was another pup as he was straight away bowing and growling and barking at him, then bouncing around him trying to nip at him. He doesn't try to play with them like that anymore, but still is very boisterous around kids (just today knocked a little one over in the park and decided to give his face a wash  doh)

Hi everyone, sasha is 9 months now and she still plays tug of war with our trousers and sometimes mouths our hands although she never bites now. Its her way of telling us she wants to play she tugged so hard the other day she nearly pulled my hubbies trackies down because he was ignoring her as she had been naughty out in the garden (she had pulled a low wicker fence out of the ground) lol xx
