My girl is going in to be speyed on Monday and I thought I would ask if there is anything that i should do before and after the op ? I have upped her food a tiny bit this week but was wondering if I should give her anything extra to help her over the next two days? Also what should I do about exercise after ? the vet said not to let her jump and run after but that will drive her crazy as she is an outside dog who does on average about an hour a day flat out running on the beach and the rest of the time she is outside with logs and branches to play with..
On from this her behavior has been strange this last few days ... do you think that she may be picking up on my anxiety over this... as I am very much so
..
Thanks for reading

Hi Barry she could very well be picking up on it but they also act strange when they're coming into season, keep a close eye on her, as for Walks post op she won't be allowed out for so many days Sad can't risk infection, try stimulating her mentally, learn new things that'll tire her out, and good luck keeping her calm Rolling Eyes as you know they don't do calm! Daisy was spayed this time last year, as I remember it was no exercise for a day or so then light exercise for a couple of weeks, not letting her jump onto the bed/sofa etc until the wound is healed, although granted that's easier said than done! Good luck xx

Lola was a good girl and rested, but Chloe was a nightmare. She wouldn't stop jumping on chairs, etc, and she got fluid in the wound which had to be drained twice. The vet didn't tell us off, just laughed and said she was a little monkey which was nice of him. It's hard to keep them still isn't it?! She will be dopey for the first day or so though. Lots of treats to cheer her up - any extra weight will be run off when she's allowed to run again! Don't worry - it'll pass  Smile

Would you be able to get some toys for her to play with indoors until she can get out and about again, games of hide and seek with small treats should be OK, just use an old blanket to wrap them up in so she has to think about what to do to get to the treat, old egg boxs are great for this too. The mental stimulation will tire her out.
