Post by Jay Fri Jun 28 2013, 18:48

I just saw this pic posted by XajaStafford in the gallery section of his/her 17 week old, Our roxy looks tiny in comparison at 15 weeks. Roxy is the bottom pic, do you think she looks small for 15 weeks?

I know they all come in different sizes ect but was curious on peoples opinions.

Rocky was quite small at that age, its only now at 5 months bordering 6 months that he has shot up a bit, I guess they all have the different stages, no correct height/weight for the age group.

As above they all grow differently so don't concern yourself , generally up until 12months ish and then out so until 18-24 months you won't have the full picture

I wouldn't worry about it as long as she isn't skinny, which from your picture she doesn't look too skinny at all. All pups grow at different rates! There is no "normal" weight for a pup! I know its hard not to worry but try not to be so focused on her weight compared to other pups her age! She may end up being on the smaller side! She is so cute and looks happy and healthy and thats all that matters!

Roxy looks great to me. My female Ella looked about spot on what Roxy does. she was 6 - 8 kgs at that age but i cant exactly remember what. she weight 12.6kgs at her 6 month checkup so Roxy is on track nicely.

Roxy's chest width, jaw muscles and hind legs all look the same as Ella's.

i was exactly like you and thought Ella was a little small as everyone in the park said she was small for her age. i exercised her every day and fed her top quality food and i think 12.6kg at 6 months is a great result. your pup looks like she may get to about 11kgs by 6 months but i wouldnt think any less. remember she is short as well so will weigh a little less. Breed standard states 11 - 16kg. so she is perfectly o track. Mind you i have never seen a 11kg full grown bitch.

i will start a thread on Ella's growth rate with heaps of pics from 4 weeks to 6 months so keep an eye out.

Cheers
Dave

Thanks for posting, at 18 weeks she is now 7.4KG, i have now stopped worrying about her weight as she is what she is, we feed her good food, she is very active, looks healthy so we are concentrating on the more important things like training, loving and being licked to death.

she is great for the breed. just think she only needs to double her weight over the next 2 yrs to be a great bitch. that will be easy.

She looks fine to me, no need to be concerned they suddenly have a spurt and you don't even notice. I still think my boy is no bigger than last year til people say "He is huge" but I cant see it. She is a beauty anyway.Big Grin

Try using photobucket for your pics , much easier , and you can also add them in your emails , post the links to FB etc , its what just about all of us do Smile

https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/t12017-how-to-post-a-photos-onto-the-forum

Regarding growth , generally dogs will grow upwards until around 12 months and then the 2nd stage is filling out until 18 -24 months , with things like wobbly ears etc stressing you out along the way Smile

Hmmm, I have been weighing Roxy for weeks on our home digital scales with me holding her, weighing, weighing myself alone and taking away my weight from our combined weight.

I have always had the scales in the same spot on the kitchen floor, Today I had to put the scales in a different spot, yesterday in the old spot she was weighing 7.4 KG. In the new spot she came in at 8KG, so I double checked this by taking the scales into the garden and putting them on a very level paving slab, again 8 kg, out of curiosity I tried the old spot and it said 7.4kg.

I think the spot where I have had the scales is not so even.
